Cool Paraglide Vid

Certain parts of this sport really appeal to me. The part where your airfoil wads up into a used napkin wrapped in a tangle of strings…not so much.

Some familiar scenery there.

The collapses are why hang gliders will always be more fun in the high rockies.

Cool, these folk are good, however, one thing about grey hair, I don't have to do stuff like that anymore.

I give them their due

I do miss the ability to pack my wing into a backpack and go flying! I am somewhat attached to my solid wings with and without an engine these days though...

Yeah I'm with you on that lesuther! Though I phased out hang gliding in '79 in favor of powered flight, I've always kept an eye on what's going on, and still have buddies from the old days that still fly. I went out once to check out a para glider, my first time seeing one in mountain type conditions. The first time I'm eyeballing one, and right in front of me while he was working the ridge, a little ripple worked across it, I could see it in the fabric. Then it just kinda rolled into a flopping bag of laundry, it was pretty insane to watch! The pilot, a young guy with real good reflexs, saved his ass by a picture perfect emergency chute throw and deployment, the whole process from tuck to touchdown took about 10 sec at most.

They MUST have improved since then though, since so many fly them? The weirdest thing for me is when I see all their 4x4 rigs the pg pilots have don't have roof racks! That portability is super attractive to me, having lugged a hang glider around south america once for 3 months.

Looks sweet. Nice video. I have once also BASE jumped off a paraglider pilot. It was a great jump and an awesome flight.
