Cool Under Pressure

This is an interesting scenario of an F-15 with a fire in the right engine bay. The pilot shuts down the engine, but the fire continues. He decides to try to save the airplane and land at Whiteman.

You can see the airspeed and altitude tapes in the HUD and listen to his conversation. He touches down at high speed but can’t get it stopped and ejects about 1000 feet from the departure end of the runway.

The pilot is very professional in handling this emergency, although I am not sure I would have stayed with it as long as he did. Check the rate of respiration and the fact that the camera and some cockpit information systems seem to be still working after the aircraft finishes crashing .

He gets the message about "bingo" fuel after all the parts have stopped moving .

There is a whole lot of things wrong with this. Where is the engine fire audio? Where is the engine fire pull handle being pulled? When were the fire bottles selected and fired? Where is the engine out audio? All I heard from Betty was bingo fuel and a turbine inlet overtemp.

ok, the rest of the story...from my brother a eagle test pilot:

This is about 10 years ago. It was a Guard pilot, St. Louis I believe. He screwed up & didn't pay attention to his approach speed. #2 made matters a lot worse by his comm urging the MP to stay fast. He came in initially 200 knots fast and touched down more than 100 knots fast. There was no reason for that speed except for the fact that he wasn't paying any attention to what he was doing and his wingman was saying don't get slow...erroneously. The plane flies fine on one engine, and though it was on fire, he still could have flown a normal approach. Aviate, navigate, communicate. glg
