Copalis Beach

Does anyone know if it possible to fly in and camp overnight at Copalis Beach? Or, does high tide make it impossible?

Re: Copalis Beach

Look at the tide tables.

The sand above the high water mark is extremely soft and would be a bear to get you plane high enough to avoid the tides. I don't think there are any camp sites and there are no porta potties or fresh water either.

Short answer probably not.

Re: Copalis Beach

The WSDOT website says no overnight parking of aircraft due to tidal changes and no camping allowed... Bummer.

Re: Copalis Beach

The ocean tides at Greys Harbour( 9NM Southeast), which is relatively sheltered, are >10' today. The Copalis beach airstrip is rather exposed which would make me add 20% to that value. Also, the weather forecasts on the coast vary greatly in accuracy. Better to spend the day and retreat to a safe location at night.

What a bummer. The private strip north of Shelter Cove looks like the greatest spot for isolated beach camping. From what I hear the owners are litigious.
