Re: Coyote Ugly unpsde down on mountain top

Sobering thought that if this can happen to Pops it could happen to any of us. :( Lets all be careful this year so we can live to irritate each other. Pops, all the best!

PS: I hope my Unpsde never goes down on a mountain top!!!

Pops, sorry to hear about the plane but it sounds like the important bits came through unscathed, glad to hear you're ok.

I'm sorry to hear about this. Glad Pops is ok. I'll echo the other comment: a sober reminder to all of us that it can happen to anyone. Good luck getting everything sorted out and can't wait to hear your tale.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

I recall a video of his with a song "Run with the sizzors". Has anybody heard first hand from Pop's or from JR?

Glad it wasn't worse..... Next month is one year since I was educated by a snow drift, I have new respect for them.

Can't wait to hear the story.

Not just the story, but the movie too...because I'm sure you had the camera rolling!

Again, so glad you are ok and feel for you and your ride.

Glad to hear you are OK Pops. Don't go getting too humble on us. I like seeing what you do. If I had half of your skill, I would be happy.

Look forward to seeing the bird all fixed up again.

Ditto, again. If nothing else this may be the time to do a lot of other little things to the plane you havn't had the time for, being too busy flying! A good thing about any STOL aircraft, at least on takeoff and landings, things happen pretty slow, sure lessening the damage to everything and everybody.

Joe you can correct anything I got wrong -glad to hear your voice and ok .

Flight:
Talked to "Pops" aka Joe Dorty yesterday afternoon -he had landed on hill top 4 miles from airport (Austin) and was Departing when he hit a snow drift .Apparently he's ok(a few minor nicks) but airplane is still up there . Pops walked out (some 3000 ft. decent) several hours-and several miles, to meet his wife -he called her by cell phone from accident site. Insurance company is probably getting helicopter to pick up Super Cub off top of Mt. and move it down to where it can be disassembled for truck ride to fix-it shop. His RV is in Idaho and green cub needs annual so no airplane to survey wreck site. He sounds OK but just a little shaken .

Gosh, and this whole time I thought his last name was Dory. Sorry for butchering your name Pops.

By the way, what the heck does "unpsde" in the subject line mean?

I'm thinkin' it refers to the "scrambled brains" feeling you get while hanging in the seat belts upside down, whilst waiting for the dust to settle. There's also this total feeling of disbelief and a strong and strange urge to kick your own self in the butt. Been there.
