Re: Crest Air Park Plane Crash

"The airplane turned upside down as it was trying to make a return trip to the runway, which is somewhat of a bad maneuver to do."

I guess "somewhat of a bad maneuver" can be considered an understatement...

Oh my. That's where I bought my 180. Bela H, ...any details?

Sad day. Looks somewhat like an RV.

One can only hope he was referring to the returning to the runway part, not the turning upside down (spin) part...

Seems like last year there was a T-18 that flipped upside down attempting to return to the field after an engine failure. May have been it Florida my memory is failing.

T-18? No thanks.

I'll not strap my butt into one.

Taken from an NTSB accident report (not THIS accident):

"Several interviews conducted with Thorp T-18 owners revealed that the stall speed of the airplane
with flaps extended is approximately 65-68 knots (level wings). No flap stall speed is about 69-71
knots, and landing speed (touchdown) is about 80 knots. All three owners who were interviewed
reported that in their experience, the airplane "breaks very fast" during practice approach turn
stall maneuvers."
