Was poking around on the X-Plane website, which is a highly realistic flight simulator that runs on Mac, Windows, and Linux. It is a one-man show written by a pilot/software developer named Austin Meyer. He commonly posts interesting theoretical bits of knowledge on the site, and it's fun to read and digest them.
Today I found this: Cruise Altitude Calculator.
It's basically a program that you can plug a few variables into and get a more accurately calculated optimum cruise altitude for your airplane. The power setting tables in the POH or AFM always require interpolation it seems, so why not get a little more accurate?
Read his blurb, try the program, let's discuss.
Edit: Neither Jr or I could get the program running, could be a bug. If anyone else here is successful, let us know.
