New to the group. I'm guessing there's no real "backcountry" flying in CT, so where is everyone landing for fun? Just getting back into flying after too many years away due to family and career. Flying Warriors and 172s at the moment but hoping to get seaplane and tailwheel in the next year or two. I've loved the Tri-Pacers since I was a kid (I know, not a tailwheel but still cool as hell) and would love to get one someday. If I get the tailwheel endorsement, place I occasionally rent a 172M (and a 152 soon as well) also rents their cub and Husky as well.

Lots of fun places in New Hampshire

Where in new Hampshire is that? I'll be back in Massachusetts in late October with my 140 looking to get down and dirty

N41 Waterbury/Plymouth/Mount Tobe is a CT public use airport with two turf runways about 2000' long. It's a great little airport with trees at both ends so good for practicing your backcountry skills without being too aggressive to start out. There are a few other private strips in CT as well once you get up to speed. Lots of other fun options throughout New England. Welcome.

Thanks for the info! One of the many things I love about new England is the grass strips all over the place. Seems like a lot of airports back home have grass cross runways, even if they're not charted (Sterling 3B3 and Tanner-Hiller 8B5 to name a few)

Tanner-Hiller had a grass strip too? Never noticed it - used to fly in there for fun years ago when I first got my license. Was flying out of Amity at ORH back then - Tanner-Hiller was a short hop away and easy to find as I just followed some power lines. I remember the runway being pretty beat up but don't remember grass. Were they just Landing next to it? I learned my grass takeoffs and landings at Sterling with the parallel grass runway (with the paved taxiway being like a speed bump in the middle). Palmer used to be a fun little strip (though paved) to do into as well.

The grass at tanner hiller and sterling extend 45 ish degrees off the paved runway. They've both become overgrown with small trees recently. Tanner Hiller has plans to trim the trees back and make the grass cross runway useable again, but I'm not holding my breath..... Palmer was a great little airport. It's a shame it closed. My first flight was in my uncle's navion there when I was 4 years old. Left a life changing impression on me

The grass next to the runways at all of these locations is still easily landable though!

My brother has a CT and he loves it! He flew NY to Seattle and back to NY this summer. He had a blast on that trip.
