Custom link title for a long URL (avoid wide thread width)

I think this was mentioned at one time, but must have missed the remedy. On occasion there will be a thread that the text is wider than the screen and I have to scroll to see the whole content, what is the solution? I am using a Windows XP unit. Thanks for any thoughts. Steve

2 things can force the layout of the HTML to be too wide to automatically fit your browser width:

1. huge photos embedded
2. Long links (URLs) that have no spaces, so the browser can't wrap the text.

I'd ask anyone who is posting really long URLs to use this technique:

Code: Select all
[url=http://reallylonglinkwithlotsofgobblygook.com]Link title that you come up with[/url]

It will display like this:

Link title that you come up with

but clicking it will take the user to http://reallylonglinkwithlotsofgobblygook.com

Last time I made up a tinyUrl, I noticed they have a feature now to let you make up your own
name. (I suppose if your's isn't already taken.) Try this one:

No, wait, that's probably not a good test, since nothing should have happened... 8*)

Right, but not really necessary around here if you use the above technique unless you want to mask the original URL, or the BBcode can't handle the characters in the URL for some reason (which I've had happen.)
