Day Trip to Downeast Maine in Search of Fresh Lobster

I woke up this morning and I knew that I wanted fresh Lobster right off of the boat.

With that in mind I flew from my home base of Portsmouth New Hampshire to Stonington Maine.

Heading further Northeast over Pemaquid, Port Clyde, Rockland, and Islesboro Maine.

Finally Stonington Maine off of the Port Bow!

Spotted this beauty getting ready to leave for points south.

After riding on the scenic roads of Stonington to the wharf (3 miles) I found what I had come for.

Haircut anyone? I can be seen in the window reflection.

And what Maine town would be complete without its own Opera House.

Image

After milling around town I rode the three miles back to the Stonington airport to head home.

There are over 3000 offshore islands in Maine.

New Harbor Maine with Monhegan Island in the distance.

Right over my home in Maine.

Boothbay Harbor awaiting its summer tourists.

Beautiful Camden Maine and Penobscot Bay.

And I continued further south until I arrived back home in Portsmouth New Hampshire.

Nice pictures. I wish I had pic's of my first trip to Maine. My Dad was friends with a guy that sold fish bait in Virginia. Les wasn't a pilot but bought a brand new Cherokee 6 300 to haul bloodworms ( a cardboard box with seaweed and 20 dozen worms per box)from Maine and hired pilots to fly it. I got to ride with a corporate pilot on his day off and we headed for Bar Harbor on a day you could see forever. When we got there we found out we didn't have some permit so we had to go to Belfast to load and smuggle the worms back to VA. This was back in 1975. I forget how many boxes we loaded but we stuffed worms everywhere except where we were sitting. Later on it was wrecked on a mountain somewhere around Bangor in bad weather.

Great pics MAU. Maine is on my list for sure. Never been further North than Boston. It was a while back, and actually my first trip on a jet!

I like your TR's because they always include a Foreflight screenshot that gives good context. And the lobster made me hungry.

As I don't watch television, I have no idea of who he is.

Is he a famous Lobsterman?

When you come to Maine we will go find him.
