The number I got off of Airnav:206-263-3637 says "all cirquits busy" I have tried several times over the last hour. Anbody have luck with this number before?
Was thinking of camping out there on the way to Idaho this weekend, but wanted to get permission first.

Kind of a round about way to Idaho. . If I was going to be around this weekend, I'd fly up just to say hi. But... the South Twin Sister beckons. Haven't done any climbing for a while so I'm really looking forward to this.

Ya, have a buddy that wants to tag along for the first few days in his 172 with his family so we are going to stay away from the canyons.

Is that the south sister of the 3 sisters in the Bend area? My wife and I climbed Mt. Washington last weekend, just north of the sisters.

I think that number has the old SW WA area code. Try replacing the "206" with "360"

No, it's just west of Mt. Baker. Unlike the choss pile of the three sisters volcanoes, this is high quality rock. It's an upthrust of the mantle, one of two places in the world I am told.

I'd like to make it up Washington sometime.

The owner of Daybreak called me back the next day after I left him a message and said that I could camp there if I wished. My plans had changed and I ended up going to Lands Inn Ranch for the first night of our trip.

I was about to head for home from the NWAAC antique fly-in a week ago & was planning on stopping at Daybreak, when I noticed that it's no longer shown on the sectional- plus a friend told me that he heard they don't want people landing there any more. I overflew the place & orbitted a couple times... even though my policy is to not land at private airstrips unless invited, it looked so nice all freshly mown that I just had to stop. I'd met the owner & his family in the past, they're real nice people so I figured I could schmooze them a bit if confronted -- worst case, I'd apologize & leave. I hung out sitting by the river for a while, nobody came over from the farmhouse to run me off so I lucked out there.
A bunch of us (with vintage airplanes) were camped there on the way home from the Evergreen fly-in several years ago when some other pilots came in-- one repeatedly buzzed the airstrip in his Cardinal & another with a helo hopped a bunch of low rides for his friends. Both activities resulted in some calls to the airstrip owner form their pissed-off neighbors. The owners came down to visit & mentioned the phone calls, and one of these geniuses made a smart-ass crack about "at least it gave you an excuse to talk to your neighbors". If it had been my strip I woulda kicked everybody out right then, and put big X's on the ends on a semi-permanent basis. So keep it in mind at these sort of places that we are allowed in at the owner's discretion, so even if you don't care about coming back don't screw it up for everybody else.

Someone told me recently that he'd heard Daybreak Skyranch was under new ownership.
I know the Swansons were trying to sell airstrip parcels years ago, I don't know how many they sold (if any) but the parcels for sale sign there went away. I checked Airnav, it indicates they still own the place. Anyone have any info on this?

Saw them as recently as late last summer and they still seemed to be enjoying the place, mowing the grass.

Good to hear. The Swansons have always been very generous about letting people land there and enjoy the place, in spite of the occasional asshole misbehaving. I'd hate to see someone else buy that little paradise and change their open door policy.

Stopped in there with a friend (2 planes) a week ago. The owners, the Swansons, were there checking things out and we got to talk to them. They are as welcoming as ever and glad to see pilots using the place. Didn't ask about camping, but I am almost sure it would be OK. Its the smoothest, most well kept, and beautiful grass strip in the whole area.

Dean and Delverna are truly awesome people and love airplanes stopping in. If you're going to camp, they ask that you just phone ahead to let them know, especially for groups. They occasionally will rent the picnic area out to non-aviation groups so it's good to avoid a conflict. Friendly interactions and spending a few minutes shooting the breeze with them, and thanking them goes a long way toward continued fun there.
