Had a DC-10 air tanker come in last week to help put down a retardant line between homes just out of town (two miles) and the fire that was crossing a ridge. luckily the humidity went up and the temps down the day after so the fire isn't doing anything now.
It took it half an hour to fly from Helena to Plains then 1.5 hours to come back after making a drop. It did that three times to finish the line.

Maybe Zinke will loosen the purse strings and get more fire fighting assets.
The fire seasons in the West are getting (gotten) really bad and assets to fight them are just not sufficient.

Pretty impressive one mile or better swath of retardant drop.
