De-ice
Share tips, techniques, or anything else related to flying.
Cold weather BCP's, what do you guys use for de-icing? I have always used sprayed on anti freeze as taught at the NAS Whidbey flying club. So am wondering what you use and, if ethelyne glycol, do you use it straight or mixed with water and in what ratio. I'd love to just move into a hangar but the budget says not. Asking what y'all do, I can afford. Thanks

Unless you have a shitload of extra cash just sitting around, may I suggest:
Wing covers and tail covers (REMOVE if the wind is forecast to blow hard)
A good push broom, dedicated to nothing but sweeping wings so no dirt scratches the paint.
Engine blanket, best you can afford (it doubles as an emergency sleeping bag).
Cabin heater, and blanket to cover the glareshield, to trap the heat under your gyros.
You can buy all of the above for what a few gallons of glycol would cost.

Good covers are the best investment you can make. I like the ones made from mesh....they can stay on in wind.

Gump, shitload of cash being conspicuously absent, I have a set of wing covers left over from the 206 and assume they'll work on the 180 and so will put them to work (never had them outa the bag, just didn't really think about it). Also have an engine cover that will work and will drag that out of the barn and wrap my poor lonely 180 nicely up. I'm no where near a plug in so can't do the heater and have the broom already. Thanks for the feedback. The Great North Wet just doesn't really get that cold very often.
