Not backcountry related, but you know what today is. I do not want any "hot air" stuff, but a little remberance of the "greatest generation" would be nice. There aren't many left.

After 60+ years I told my Dad a belated thank you for his sacrifices during WWII.

These guys came back from a war against real tyrants hell bent on ruling the world where death was a daily experience and entered back into society with a hand shake and attaboy...get back to work.

The VA has forgotten them and Veteran's Day is becoming an endangered species. When was the last time you saw anyone wearing a Poppy? You can get them in Canada where most everyone wears one for 11/11.

If you have a relative, or friend of a friend who is a WWII vet, tell them thanks before it is too late. Thousands die each week of old age.

Things haven't changed much over the years have they. Same thing is going on now..........Ron

Better than the 60's & 70's, when combat veterans returning from Vietnam got spit on & called baby killers. Coming home to a handshake is a big step up, although our vets do deserve more than that.

I would agree with that. Most of them it's a job, not an adventure. They are all volunteers. Most of them simply would like the acknowledgement of the fact that they at least try to make things better. A soldier is a tactician, not a lawmaker or a strategist. Don't hold them accountable for decisions they aren't allowed to make. I hope as a society we have learned better.
