Deiced T-Aztec / T-337

So I tried this on a another spot and all I got was don't go fly in the ice!!
Not asking for suggestions on my smarts of where I'm going to fly or why I should or not!!
I know I'm not to smart and I will probably go fly when I think I can!

I have a bit of time in a T337, (mostly flying circles in the smoke) but none in one (T/P337) that is deiced or with a heated pad for the windshield.
I have never been in a T Aztec or any other kind of Aztec.
The reason I am picking these 2 are that they seem to be the most bang for the buck on the market today!??
Am finding mid time engines, 430-530 coupled AP equipped deiced aircraft for less than 65K!
Deiced Barons and 310's all seem to bring quit a bit more (100K)
My mission looks like a 500 -300 mile flight 8 months of the year on weekends in the PNW weather permitting, Grass strip on one end.
Just looking for some real world experience with either of these. I like the TI0-540 Lyc. as a bullet proof engine.
With proper attention I have had good luck with the TIO-360 before, They do make there TBO.

Job commute!

Thanks in advance

Look for a baby Navajo.....bomb proof engines, lots of performance and real world de-icing capability (which is to say as good as pretty much anything else....use it to get the hell out of the icing.). And, those engines will go to tbo.

Re: Deiced T-Aztec / T-337

I owned a PA23-250C, 500 hours. Latitude 21 (no icing @ < 8K) Best twin recip I know of for hauling my stuff.

Only issue is they burn AvGas ($$) and Annual Inspections are costly. Part 135/91 operators are replacing with Cessna Caravans (100%) in my AOR.

A few years ago, Wip explained to me how he floated his Aztec in St. Paul. Wip really loved her. But, now flying an amphib Caravan as his personal aircraft.

Some parts are getting harder to get i.e. "Hydraulic Power Packs" as an example. The Chieftain, Navajo, Aztec TC group are labor intensive. Lots of work to open up and swing the gear every 100hours.

I loved my Aztec. Pilots I know that owned 337s hated them then sold them. Most ended up with 421s or Navajos or Aztecs which they loved too.

Re: Deiced T-Aztec / T-337

Both have merits. The Aztec will have stronger motors with more reliability and a huge cabin for 6, + they carry ice well as mentioned. They also do shorter fields well with that big fat wing. Burn a little gas down low. They look Frumpy compared to other twins but they do offer good value.

The P-337's give you pressurization which many consider a game changer in utilization. Miserable engines but people are starting to figure out how to run them and get decent reliability. A large shop here works on all things recip and they absolutely despise 337's and charge the 2 owners on the field a premium for Mx. I would think it would be higher than an Aztec.

There are some baby Barons out there with boots that are selling cheap too.
