Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

James,
Not entirerly sure on how the Maule's control system runs but here is a couple of pic's of an inertia reel shoulder harness installation in a Piper Pacer.
Note that they are simply clamped on to the rear carry through tube and point forward towards the pilot and passenger.
Brian.

What kind of shoulder harness is that? I have seen an inertia reel shoulder strap/lap belt combo in the Cheif catalog, but the only inertia reel shoulder harness I'm familiar with is the BAS. Nice but spendy. I know a guy who cobbled one together using a Pacific Scientific reel and a bolt-on harness-- cut the attach fitting off the harness & threaded it onto the reel. With the inertia reel, it doesn't need the adjustments in the straps but otherwise it works great. However, doing the paperwork to document installation is sort of problematic: "installed Spruce p/n XXX / Pacific Scientific inertia reel p/n XXX morphodite shoulder harness assembly....." The FAA has taken a position to not prohibit shoulder harness installations without an STC -- see "policy statement Number ACE-00-23.561-01" . Good for them, they figger better an unapproved harness than none at all, but for paperwork's sake it'd be nice to just get something installable as is.
