Delle, UT

This vidio was taken November 21 with a Cannnon A640 hand held by my wife. We land at Delle, UT for mogas and a pepsi when going to Salt Lake City area. It is 60NM east of Wendover, UT along I-80.

Just taxi across the truck parking up to the fuel islands.

Anybody else know of any good places like this for mogas.

That's my kind of place! Did they have extra long hoses? - Mike

Pretty sure that there are rules that limit hose length at gas stations. Do not think that they are alowed to touch the ground. The nozzle just reaches.

I will make a mount for the camera that comes of the sunvizor mount. Stilkl in design mode.

Anybody know if the gas on the pump at Delle is still pure or has it been polluted with ethanol?

Filled up there last Sunday after the Austin Fly-in. Utah requires that if there is Ethynol in the pumps, it must be posted.

I pulled my nose wheel up onto the slab next to pump # 1. The hose is not extra long but it reaches the tanks on my 182.

You know that the price of gas is about 25 cents more that in SLC cus it is the only place out there.

If I have some 100LL in the tanks anyway, I fill up with the 85 octane, or is it 86. I know that I am suposed to use minimum of 87 but I average. If I am coming from the west, I usully have mostly mogas 87 in the plane then I put in the higher test.

I filled up with low grade last time and I think it was 4.35. Today I was in Medford,. OR in my pickup and got 87 gal of 87 no Eth in my slip tank for 4.2 per gallon.

Hope I am not called a moron for putting less than 87 oct in my plane.

Damn Tim, your a mor................just kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!

How does your 182 perform with 87 pump gas? I've been thinking of using pump gas in my plane, too. Do you keep your plane in a hanger? If so, do you notice the pump gas smell in your hanger?

The previous owner and my currant flight instructor (my flight instructor has flown with the previous owner as well) of my 182, flew the plane on pump gas with no problems. And they have flown all over the northwest and the Idaho backcountry with this plane. So I think I should be good.

No problem with pump gas. I cannot tell the difference between pump gas smell and 100LL smell.

I stoped at the Delle gas station on my way to Sacramento yesterday (1/5/09) to ask if it was still Ok to land and get gas there. The guy in the store told me that they love to have planes come in because it pulls customers off the freeway to come in and check out the planes. He also told me they don't have ethanol in there gas. He told me they used to have a little restaraunt in the back and a lot of guys used to fly in for breakfast on Saturdays. I am going to head over there the first chance I get and try the strip. Lets give them some business. Like they say, use it or loose it.

I have a mother and a brother in Provo. I also have a son and fmilly just a few miles from Morgan County. I always stop for gas at Delle.

No wind sock so I look for dust from ATV folks in the dirt near by. If no ATV then I fly slow crossing strip at 90 deg looking for drift.

There is a big sign to warn ATV to stay off runway but you know how that goes. Keep a sharp eye out.

One more thing to be aware of. Folks always want to help push the plane. I take advantage of that but I give instructions on where to push.

Landed in Delle two weeks ago and scared the truckers half to death! They loved looking at the plane and everybody at the station loves to watch ya! A fun little stop out in the desert!

Re: Delle, UT

Just a thought: anytime I taxi up to a gas station, I shut down way before getting close, then coast, then push the last few feet. Why? So as not to scare the non flyers out there, WE know its no biggie, but it looks "safer".
Good to hear about Delle. Places like that are to be cherished.
Little America in Wyoming has been visited by aircraft, unbeknownest to the WHP.....Afton had a place you taxi right up to, but it kept going out of business, and then Aviat took over the old strip for their plant flying when they built the new one several years ago.
This ethanol thing has really put a crimp in the whole mo gas thing. I calculated once I purchased over 3000 gallons of mo gas on xc's in my last plane, a Rans S-7, most of it carried on my folding bike 5 gallons at a time. That presented some obvious challanges, but at least it was all real gas!

Other places

Used to fill up with auto gas in my 182 in Gerlach, NV and also at Denio Junction, NV.
Always got a kick out of the folks driving by and slamming on the binders and wanting to
take a picture of the "Old Wild West".
The strip at Gerlach was closed by a guy who build his home on the end of the strip.
A few pilots used to fly the strip and pull up at the end near his house letting him
know how they felt. I guess!!!

I was filling up one early Sunday morning in Leadore, Id., right on "main" street, and a German toruist stopped to take a picture, just then, from a side street a large herd of cattle moved across Main, he loved it!

Peach Springs AZ on historic route 66 has a nice dirt strip and you can taxi right up to the gas station.
Be prepared to get your picture taken by a passing tourist!
