Destination weather?

When leaving class C (PDX), departure asks you to report back when you have weather at your destination airport.
Anyone know why?

Re: Destination weather?

Had that happen last week, asked if I had teh "1-minute weather" at SPB. Had VFR flight following from AST back to SPB. The PDX controller told me that Seattle Center had entered me in into the system as IFR by accident.

Re: Destination weather?

Often they will ask cause if you don't they can give it to you. When IFR they ask cause if you know what the weather is you can make your approach request. When VFR its them asking so they can provide it to help you.
