So here I am....JY39 with my big tire Super Cub. After just starting to get in the groove of off-airport landings in CA, NV, and ID.... I had to move to DE for work. I was lucky to find this place and have a 2000 grass strip almost to myself and live in the apartment next to my plane.

What I don't have is a clue about cool places to land. If anyone cares to share....I am listening

I did not see any mountains or deserts after passing Santa Fe on my way out. Beaches?? Gravel Bars??

You need to connect with Patrol guy and the Ohio crew! Harry is a good flier so if anyone is out there, he needs to be shown a good time out east. We need some photos of your new spots Harry!

Oof, Harry, tough break. Wish I had known you were out there - I just got back from spending the holidays in NJ and playing with the Champ on grass strips just north of you. I'd head up toward Andover-Aeroflex and say hi to Damian, beyond that work your way toward the Ohio clan. Next time I'm back in NJ i'll give a shout.

PM Tundra Joe. He is based in New Hampshire and posted some good pics of the Ice Airport when he flew there. He may know of other areas with grass strips and backcountry spots. I got an email from him last week and he rented a house and is planning to fly the Bahamas with the Tundra in June Had to use that Smilie cause there is none for envy.

There are lots of nice places to fly in and around the Poconos. VanSant (9N1) has about 12 or so Stearmans, Grimes (8N1) is hangars of WW1 and that era planes, Pegasus (50PA) is where we have the East Coast version of the BCP fly-in. By the way these are all grass fields.

I would be happy to meet you sometime and hit a few spots. It really is a nice area to fly in.

Come on over my way. I have a little strip at my house. Nearest real airport is Shoestring (0p2(zero papa two)) about 8 mile north of my house, they have a 1500' grass runway. I've got a few off airport goodies over here ranging from green circle all the way up to double black diamond. Now is the time for it, come spring It'll be pasture and crops.

Never mind the where ya at part. I should have read more carefully JY39 is 48nm due east from me. Just south of you is a one of my favorite places to take the kids. Salem NJ74. Grass strip right in the middle of a water front town. There is a diner that's open pretty much all the time and next door is a foot long hot dogs and Ice cream stand that is open during the summer months. It's private but the fellow who owns it is very hospitable.

Hey Nick - on that scale of yours, what did that place (where the family and neighbors came out to watch) you took us to rate?

John I think that one would be a 5 on scale of 1-10. That place wasn't all that technical just rougher than snot. I probably won't be back there any time soon. Believe it or not that's a hay field.

Welcome! Don't not explore the eastern shore. MD1 (Massey) look it up on the web and wait for an event. The place is great. Like landing on carpet. Its second only to Rod's place. Hit Campbell Field, Again look it up on theINTERNETt and make sure you make it for Soup on Sunday, Gordon is also a great guy. After soup I fly the 43 mile of beach beach just south of Wallops Island. Go to Tangier Island, Grab a crab cake from the locals. There is so much to do and see, it really is a great place.

So....I am embarrassed to say..I put up the post and did not come back to see all your replies!! I have been out scouting the area and am happy to report that life is good!. I have found a ton of grass airports and have managed to find a sand bar in the Delaware (came back an hour later and it was gone with the tide!) and a couple of beaches. I look forward to meeting some of you guys. Thanks for all the input.

AKT...I'll be watching that blog. I have high expectations and am waiting to see some ski action!!

Before moving to NH, I flew out of NJ and agree that a trip to Andover-Aeroflex to meet Damian ( he teaches serious bush techniques) and Van Sant is really cool. Also, all the recommendations around the Chesapeake are good one. If you ever want to come up to New England, let me know and I'll point out all the grass strips. Also, we have an active RAF up here and they are a good resource.

Was that you in the supercub that landed at N57 NewGarden on our grass strip a week or so ago? I think we're about 17 nm from you. There are a couple old timer purtist who restore J3's and L4's to original specs. When Roger saw your tires (if hat was you) he said what a waist of a cub. He doesn't get it.
