DM boneyard

I was in Tucson this week and got to check out some of the boneyard. Pretty surreal to see all those tails just sitting.

Re: DM boneyard

That's amazing........there's far more iron sitting there than our Canadian Airforce has in TOTAL.
They should sell the Canadian governent a bunch of those 16's and we can make three into one working one! LOL

Re: DM boneyard

For those of you that have never seen this, it is something to see.

The precision in the way they are parked is impressive. It is difficult to
comprehend the size of the "Bone yard" and
the number of aircraft stored there. Of course the important thing to
remember is that they are all capable of being returned to flying
condition if the need ever arises. If you are ever in the Tucson area,
the weekly tours of the bone yard is still given through the Tucson Air
Museum, located just south of Davis Montham AFB. Both the museum and the bone yard
are very popular attractions in the Arizona desert.
It is difficult to comprehend the number of military aircraft in dead
storage until you see these photographs! Even if you have seen this before, look again.

1- The 3rd largest Air Force in the world is sitting on the ground here.
2- It's the only unit in the U.S. Air Force that actually makes a profit.

Re: DM boneyard

Been several years since I've been there, indeed a very impressive sight! When I was there last there were cutting up B52s, C131s, and F111s. There were a lot of F15s and F4s in mothball. They had just hauled a F111 over to the museum. The Pima air museum is also very impressive. If you want to see the museum you need an entire day just to walk through it. Just wonder if all of the pilots for those machines are also in mothball? HC

Check it out on google earth(SE corner of Tuscon, AZ). What an inpressive sight! Gonna have to add that to my "places to see before I die" list. Looks like about a mile and a half by a mile (roughly) according to google earth.
