The question is can it just be reinstalled, since technically it was never uninstalled? If not, can it be reinstalled using the original 337 as a reference?
Not sure if it is worth the effort, but I'm curious anyway.

Since you already have an approved 337, you can remove and reinstall the door all you want without redoing a 337 every time. But since you don't have the door, you need to make sure the one you use now still conforms to the original 337 as that is what's approved.
Example, bushtires. Say you put 31's on your plane via STC or Field Approval. You can remove them to put smaller original tires on and put the bushtires back on later, doesn't require you to redo all the paperwork since it was already done and approved.
