That's an interesting video.

I wonder if they still have the "Snow courses" for the snow surveys. There were a couple posts several 100 feet apart to mark the course. Aluminum tubes in sections that would screw together were pushed down to the soil at about 10 spots measured between the posts. A snow core was removed and the tube and snow core was weighed to determine water content.

I did some of those surveys in the 70's. We didn't get to fly in though. We snowshoed in. The Morse lake snow course off Chinook pass was an overnighter.
