My mechanic looked at the Atlee box and asked where I wanted it. This was on a 175. I agree that you have some latitude on where it’s installed with that STC.

Re: Earth X Battery in F. Atlee Dodge Battery Box?

Anyone have experience with getting a field approval for a Earth X 900-24 for a 28V system? Would love to get a bunch of the battery weight out, and potentially mount it to the firewall on my C180K, but everything for doing this seems centered on 12V systems.

This was my plan installing an Odyssey on my old C150/150TD.
But my IA didn't like the foam, as he felt it could produce toxic smoke / fumes if it got hot or caught fire during a battery "event".
This was with the battery box mounted inside the airplane, aft of the baggage compartment.
I ended up fabricating a hat-section-shaped spacer out of aluminum which mounted to the box with two screws,
to take the place of the foam "shim".

Yeah, my IA mentioned that, but my battery was on the firewall, so he just shrugged and signed it off.
