ELT Required for US travel

I'm travelling Sunday in my 182 from central Canada to Springfield, MO Unfortunately my ELT is out for service right now - can someone tell me if an ELT is mandatory in the US?

thx.

Re: ELT Required for US travel

Yes an ELT is required, but you may fly up to 90 days if the ELT is removed for repair or replacement, log book entry is made stating the reason for removal with make, model, serial #, and date of removal. And a placard is installed in front of the pilot stating "ELT not installed". See FAR 91.207(a) and 91.207(f)(10)(i).

Garth, are you flying your "new" 182 or the club 182? How you liking the new bird so far? is this the first long distance with the family in the new plane trip? Safe travels. Russ

Hi Russ - yes - this is with my "new" 1974 182P :) No family coming but one of my employees - got some business there and looking at the commercial, with connections it was about 7 hours total time. I should be 6 or less, plus about $1000 less. Hopefully weather will cooperate.

I have 3 hours on it now - seems to be running good. Breaking in the top end. Havent done this before but running it "hard" as i was told. The top has about 8 hours on it and I think the oil consumption is stabilizing so i assume I'm getting close. Got my new IPAD and Foreflight installed - pretty impressive so far. Plane handles good - very smooth. Did some GPS triagulation / True Air speed testing and was getting about 165 mph at around 70-75% power. New prop really pulls on takeoff with that Texas Skyways engine.

Family hasnt been in it yet. I'm prepping them mentally for our trip to Palm Springs in March,....

Garth,

Just a side note, but if you have time, I have heard the Bass Pro store in Springfield is a worthwhile place to visit.
Have a great flight in the new toy.

We went there- was pretty cool. Trip was great - 30 knot head wind each way tho, typically - every time I fly, I have a head wind

Glad you had a great trip in the new plane. There should be open water in four months so you can try those new floats on.
