Engine Failure?
Debrief, share, and hopefully learn from the mistakes of others.

After watching the interview with the pilot I can see how it happened.
As I said earlier my fuel turns clear when I mix 87 mogas with 100 LL. If I put 5 gallons of 87 in with 15 gallons of 100 LL it still looks kind of blue when you sump.
I think the only way that would change would be to move the plane so the fuel got mixed up good.
"S" does happen. RB

I run mainly 87 octane car gas, it's kinda of a yellowish clear, or a clearish yellow. In other words, pretty much colorless. I have used 91 octane just to see if it ran better, never noticed any color with that either.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!
Kenny Chapman wrote:always look down the inside of the nozzle for dirt before pumping. Most nozzles are on the outside of the truck and are uncapped and unprotected.
I hadn't been, because I hadn't thought of that, but I will now.

I think I remember that a couple of years ago a fuel company in California (?) bought a bunch of engine overhauls due to contaminating 100LL w/ Jet fuel where the trucks were filled.
No one could tell the difference other than the "slick" feel of the fuel and that it did not evaporate when poured on the ground.

I always dip my finger into the sample...avgas will evaporate quickly and without residue, jet fuel will leave an oily film on your finger. That, and I always pump my own fuel. It gives me a chance to check the top of the plane.
