Very nice. Similar to the gravel bars on the Fraser River just to the north. I installed Knots to you flap gap seals and it increased my rate of climb by 150 fpm with no negative performance at slow speed. Easy to put on and take off.

I wondered about the dip into the water right after that takeoff-- intentional or inadvertant?

The dip onto the water was not planned. Even though I walked this bar prior to this takeofff, I didn't notice a small rise/bump about 30 feet before the end of the bar. I also didn't encounter the bump on my landing over the same location, immediately prior to this takeoff. My plan was to roll it clear to the end and rotate immediately prior to the runway. On the takeoff video you will see the airplane becomes slightly airborne as a result of the small bump just before my planned takeoff point. I felt the airplane lift off despite still having only 10 degrees of flaps. I could feel the airplane settling back to the bar as I reached my desired takeoff point and I then pulled additional flaps and started to apply aft yoke to increase the AOA and lift off. My control input was not fast enough or not enough of an input to overcome the downward vector from the sink. The airplane had more than enough airspeed to fly at this point. In the airplane I knew I had contacted the water simply by looks, but my speed was adequate that there was no significant drag from it. I couldn't even feel the water, which is what you want when skimming. It indicates that you have safe speed. The airplane didn't slow down, it simply contacted and then cleared the water due to both increased AOA and the hardness of the water bouncing me airborne again. I could have gotten the airplane airborne at absolute minimum flying speed earlier in the roll, but I prefer to use a longer distance and put more energy on the plane when able.

Lesson Learned: 1. Despite walking the bar and landing it before, always expect and be ready for the unexpected. 2. There are increased risk associated with this type of flying. If you aren't willing to accept the results, don't play. 3. Would I takeoff here again? Yes, but I would use the bump as my takeoff point and take advantage of the upward vector and immediately pull flaps and increase AOA to smoothly fly away.

I hope this explanation helps answer questions and increases everyone's knowledge bag just a little.
