Favorite $100 meals

We are always looking for new places to eat, seems we keep going back to the same old places.
Thought some of might have a couple of favorite or unique restaurants that you like to fly to.
One of our favorites would be,

Albany, OR. Albany Muni S12 The Cascade Grill (steak and seafood) taxi to the far North East of the Field then off the pavement along the East fence in the grass (heading North) to a man gate. Walk approx 100 yds east (around the motel) to the restaurant. Good food at a fair price, If you can't fight the urge to indulge in a fine seasonal brew there is always the motel between you and your plane.

Re: Favorite $100 meals

Have you tried the little cafe at 4S9 Portland-Mulino airport. It is in the NE corner and if it isn't wet you can taxi to the fence and walk the last 200 feet to the cafe. There is Annes on the Independence, Or. airport. There are a couple within walking distance at Pacific City, OR. Someone posted that the Flying M ranch is going to be serving breakfast on Sundays, first come first served I understand.

As for me I like this one best of all. It is called Mackay Bar and is located on the Salmon River in Idaho. It is about 40 miles east of Riggins, ID. ( ID28) You need to let them know before you go, look it up on the internet and that is the best way to contact them. Here is a video I took a while back of the landing in there.

The Spruce Goose at Jefferson County Airport at Port Townsend, WA has good food and great pie.

Too many stops can create W and B problems.

Flew to Glenns Ferry (http://airnav.com/airport/U89) for dinner last night at the Carmela Winery. Awesome little place kind of along the Snake River. The food was great and a nice setting. They also have a golf course, and new small cabins you can rent for only $90.00 a night. Call when your about 10 minutes out and they'll come pick you up at the airport. Tiedown parking is in front of the row of hangars.

If you can find a ride to town. Mountain Air Cafe http://www.eoni.com/~mtnair/in Joseph, OR (http://airnav.com/airport/4S3). Great little town to look around at the bronze art figures in the downtown area and many great stores and art gallery's. A trip up to the lake is only about 5 minutes.

If your flying around NJ and eastern NY:

Wallkill, NY: The Cavu at Kobelt Airport. http://airnav.com/airport/N45

There are some mixed reviews about the Nu-Cavu, but my experiance was great and the food was awesome! I guess it also helped going there with my friends that know the new owners very well.

Re: Favorite $100 meals

There is no place like good ol Smiley Creek. But one of my favorites close to home is Ogden airport. Its a fun airport with a couple of places right on the field. The Auger Inn is in the old terminal building and is your typical greaseball diner but a great crowd. The other, Rickenbackers, is quite an upscale place with a lot of character and beautiful aviation decor. I recommend Rickenbackers to anyone flying in the Salt Lake area. A little pricey during dinner but extremely reasonable during lunch! :D

Mulino is always fun, the food isn't great but dodging the hay bales to get there sure is.

Re: Favorite $100 meals

Two of my favorites over here on the right coast that have great food on the airport, are the Barnstormers Grill at PeachState Aerodrome in Georgia (GA2), and Basin Harbor Club in western Vermont on Lake Champlain (B06) . Nothing like that eating $100 hamburger as you look out the window at your AC parked on a grass runway.

Re: Favorite $100 meals

Had breakfast today at the Glacier Peak Cafe at Darrington, WA. Right across the highway from the airport, adjacent to the transient ramp. Decent food and service, reasonable prices-- plus a great flight up the Stillaguamish River Valley. then after breakfast down the Sauk River for a stop at Concrete, then down the Skagit River toward home. Good day.

Re: Favorite $100 meals

Denio Junction is high on my list. It is near hotsprings, and lots of outback sights. You can get beverages, prepared food, and gas. There's a motel or you can camp in the tiedown area. The strip is pretty fair dirt and has a cross wind runway. There were weeds growing in it last month, but my prop didn't turn green, so I guess they aren't too high.

Now that it's cooling down in the desert, I'm going to check it out! Thanks, Tom.

If you are in SoCal, Santa Paula is a great place to stop. Take a walk into town and check out "Smokey Joes BBQ". well worth the 3-4 block walk from the airport.

Homestead Restaurant along side the old Afton Wyoming strip, now the Aviat strip, but you can still get real close, good food, lots of "colorful" locals, and sassy waitress's, and whatever they are calling it these days, but the place closet to the Leadore Id strip.
