between 6 & 7000 if the tunnels aren't cracked and they are complete. the pump, diverter and the skis are the valuable parts the axles and rigging can be fabricated. dont let anyone talk you into parting them out, the skis are almost valueless without the diverter.
You'll get at least 1000 more for them if you cover the bottems with UHMW.

tricycles are for little girls

Five or six years ago, my AWB 2500's developed cracks in the bottoms, in one tunnel, and they had other problems as well. I sent them to F.Atlee Dodge, and they completely rebuilt them for $3000.

I don't see any data plate on the one that's right side up. Without data plates, they aren't worth very much. You may be able to get the FAA to issue new data plates if they really aren't there. Hard to tell from the photos.

I think if they are in very good condition and the data plates are there, ccurrie is probably about right price wise.

ccurrie & MTV, I have looked fairly close at them for cracks and flaws but don't see any. Where should I focus on in particular? No data plates and I don't see where any were ever riveted to them or discolouration or fading where they should have been??? They came with the plane and I am new to skis.... what is a diverter? Thanks for your help and input. Any knowledge you care to share is greatly appreciated.

the diverter is the valve that switches the pump from up to down. the data plates should be on the top of the tunnel near the back. the tunnels crack were the spring loaded "riggers" attach to the tunnels on the inside in front of the pedestals.
what kind of plane did they come on? my experience is the ones like mine that were on 180s are allot more beat up than the ones that were on lighter planes like 170s and cubs.
You live in Ontario why would you sell your skis?

I was recently quoted $15000.00 for a set of Hyd Skis for the Scout. I decided to let the in-laws plow me a path when we go visit. It sure would be fun to have a set.

Hey "Sheep"

I'm new to the site, just saw your post. I have a set of these skis for my C170. I bought them for 8K in 2002 from a guy in Northern Minnesota. They are in pretty good shape, and I think they are worth the money. I'm based at an airport, so they are especially handy when you need to change back and forth alot.
1. WipAire, in St. Paul sells their hydraulic skis for about 18K for the C170.
2. The data plates are located at the very tail end of each ski where the tab for the cable attaches to the tail.
3. The resovoir for the hydraulic system with all the lines, connectors, etc are not shown...do you have them also? I did not get them with my skis and had to have them built which cost me another $1500 or so.
4. Axels are extra.
5. Many skis also have a Teflon or plastic sheet to cover the bottom surface which can be replaced as needed.
6. I had my pump mounted on the floor behind the fuel selector with the handle coming forward between the seats. This is much easier to use than in the passenger floorboard where you have to reach a long way to get to the pump. Pumping does require a fair amount of strength so its good to have the handle near your hip for leverage.
Not sure from your post whether you are selling or thinking of buying. Hope this helps. There are pros and cons for skis, but even though the hydraulics are expensive, I wouldn't ski fly nearly as much if I had to cart the a/c to the grass and cart it back to the hanger every time. It's nice to be able to change your plans along the way when you have the option of snow or runway.

My 2 cents :D Good luck.

Welcome Odie170! More 170 details please! There's several of us here with 170's, and at least a few of those on skis.

Myself, I've got a 145 HP '53 B model on Aero 3000 straight skis, 8042 climb prop with the Kenmore STC, 180 gear legs, and a few other "useability" mods. Nice to see another 170 skiplane on the site.

Cheers,

-DP

Odie's C170

Thanks for the welcome "Denali".
I bought my C170 in Jan. 2002 (as a matter of fact, today is the anniversary of the day I got her back to MN and rolled her into the hanger.)
:D
She has a 180HP conversion w/CS prop. I have since rebuilt the engine which now has "50 something" hours on the new motor and prop.
I have rebuilt the feeble heating system into a heat factory so I can fly in sub-zero temps in comfort and single layers of clothing, added an electronic Ignition from "Lazar" (with "bush kit" for hand propping) and of course added the ski package.
I tried to add a pic or two to my profile, but despite the tutorials on the site, I'm still working on that.
I also have a profile on a site I use down here at TreetopFlyers.org if you want to check it out. I'm N170GA there. I was a member of the International C170 club for a while too.
I have been a frequent visitor over the years to AK for fishing. Love the place, and have thought of flying up sometime. Spent most of my time between Seward to the south and Talkeetna to the north. Got within sight of Denali (the mountain) once!
Hope the skiing is good in your neck of the woods. Have a good year,

Odie
