Field Approval Database???

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Re: Field Approval Database???

Maybe set up a BSD server in Honduras? With PPP dial in only and an OpenSSL PKI stack.

Call it wiki337.org.hn

They will never find us Ha ha...

Over the past year or so, I've gotten copies of some field-approval 337's (for 26" GY's on a C180) from five participants here. A couple of times, when someone else here was looking for the same thing, I took the liberty of forwarding them on. Then when Zane decided to start a 337 library, I forwarded them on to him also.
I apologize if I've created any privacy issues for anyone, it never even occurred to me that it might be a problem. After all, as Zane says, that information is already in the public domain.

Zzz wrote:The reasoning that's been PM'd to me is something along the lines that the work done for a 337 was, to paraphrase, many hours of work and delicate navigation of the FSDO bureaucracy, which most people aren't willing to do themselves. It appears that the people behind these field approvals feel that they've accomplished some level of intellectual property that they'd like to protect from public consumption. There was a hint of protectionism too, since when an IA is effective at getting the approval, it means $$$ in services. It seems like an attitude that will perpetuate the stagnation and mystery of field approvals we currently enjoy.

Seems if that's what they want or if that's how they feel, they should pursue an STC for their efforts. Too bad. If I've got an improvement on my plane that works well, I'd want anyone to have to that desired it...and any help to get it...especially having to deal with getting the blessing of the FAA.

I would be willing to host the 337's on my site and you can link them here... just say its a cool link you found while surfing the net. I don't play personal politics and if ya'll are interested in doing this let me know. As many have said, it would be a helpful thing to have!

no.. You have built a site that you want to protect and I completely understand that. It was not a dig on you at all, i was just saying that I don't care too much about people wanting me to change content on my site.. I have had manufactures send me nasty grams after the guys posted up bad reviews on a product.. I simply tell them that if they can refute the bad reviews to please join the forum and do so.. never heard another peep out of them.
At the end of the day, I merely offered a solution to the 337 data base issue that you are having here and offered a way for them to be put in one place and help out the entire aviation community. Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers mr.

Re: Field Approval Database???

A number of years ago, a friend of mine wanted to get an approval to mount a Dynon in his Swift.
Another friend heard about it, and told me about a 185 guy doing just that & posting a copy of his FA 337.
I copied it off the internet, and forwarded it to my Swift buddy.
He wanted to make sure he had exactly what the FAA had, so he popped for a records CD for the 185 in question.
A little extra time & $10, but he knew then that he had the real deal & not some doctored-up fake.

Re: Field Approval Database???

A Piper Pacer owner was kind enough to send me some 337s for his plane, so I have posted them.
