Thanks for posting, that was my question as well. Where was this filmed?

Someone needs to buy this and do a review!

I bought volumes 1-4 even after reading on this site that some we're feeling sore in the wallet for what they got. I'd only buy another BRLP video again if the consensus is that its a home run. Don't want to be a sniveler but my discretionary $ are getting hard to come by. What a cop-out [-X

Re: FINALLY: Big Rocks Long Props Vol 5 "HIGH COUNTRY"

Greg isn't revealing where this was filmed exactly, at least not the last time we asked him. I've watched it personally and really enjoyed it for the quality of the video work, and the angles. We got the first shipment of anyone, so only a very small handfull of people have seen it since we just started shipping in the last few days..... but I personally enjoyed it.

Do I get royalties from this video as he uses my screen name and airplane type?

Nah, your screen name isn't highcountry, it's hicountry....and your plane is high country explorer....so he found a way to steal your identity, and get away with it

You should ask him! :) Regarding sources, we likely ship faster than the rest.... it's our fulltime operation here selling DVDs, aircraft accessories, pilot shop stuff, etc. Good luck on the royalties I look forward to his response :)

... a customer posted this review on our website, it's not a lengthy in depth but it's a review as you requested.... here it is:

Code: Select all
What a fun video to watch! I fly original J3 Cubs, so I am not unfamiliar with a short field landing. But this is really amazing! Extremely short landings, takeoffs, etc. on water (no floats, just 35″ tires!), sand/gravel bars, ridges, and mountaintops! Skilled piloting, great photography. Inspiring to think about the precision that Greg is flying with. Even though it’s “Kids, don’t try this at home”, there was a lot for me to take away, consider, and try – in much more hospitable terrain, of course!

Re: FINALLY: Big Rocks Long Props Vol 5 "HIGH COUNTRY"

Greg sent me an email and I ordered it immediately. I liked it, I guess. It's not SE Utah, but beyond that I'm not sure where it was filmed. In my opinion, the other videos he's done are better. This was more like "watch me do what you expect". Nothing new and nothing out of the BRLP box. No real artistic contribution. Not much discussion in the way of technique. These videos of his could be gold mines. Greg is an excellent pilot and I wish he'd get over his phobia of being sued, or construed as giving flight training advice. (Responsible are scumbag lawyers and the system they abuse... but I digress.) In fact and unfortunately, he handles this about perfectly.

Greg set the bar high with Vol. 1 and Water Play, and Loni's "CubDriver". Then the bar was raised to, perhaps, an insurmountable level with Loni's "No Second Chances". That was truly great and deserving of the independent film awards it has earned. Since "High Country" follows that, I had expectations that weren't met and that may not be anyone's fault. The "sponsor" was referenced throughout and it got old (think... "drink your Ovaltine!? A crummy commercial!?")

In the end, it was fun to watch... once. By comparison, I've viewed the others like it many many times. Would I buy it again... no. Would I sell it out of my library... no. So... two thumbs sideways.

Re: FINALLY: Big Rocks Long Props Vol 5 "HIGH COUNTRY"

In my opinion, the other videos aren't "better". They may be more high risk, but the High Def video of Volume 5 "High Country" is definitely his best footage quality. Yes, he thanks NFlightCam a few times but I don't think it's excessive; it simply couldn't have been done cost effectively without his help in my belief. I think #5 nicely rounds out the video series with top quality footage - remember, if Greg were to always outdue himself, at some point (and in my mind it's a very fine line) he'd be taking wayyyy too much risk to continue to keep us all on an ever-increasing adrenaline run.

If someone wants more 'instructional' BRLP #2 I think is the best, or BRLP Idaho. We sell a lot of the Idaho, it's very popular. If I were Greg I would avoid legal exposure as well ; all it takes is one annoying Lawyer and it could ruin his LIFE.

Re: FINALLY: Big Rocks Long Props Vol 5 "HIGH COUNTRY"

It is true, as I have become older the risk I am willing to take with my airplane and life has gone down to zero. Although Big Rocks and long Props V1 may look dangerous there is very little danger of getting hurt, bending an airplane? Maybe, that can happen doing gravel bar stuff but very few will die doing it.

I have managed to figure out (maybe rather slowly) that I prefer to keep flying rather then working on repairing airplanes. There were many places in the area that I filmed Vol. 5 that I thought, boy that would make some amazing video if I had a helicopter but the consequences of doing it a little wrong in an airplane would cost you your life. That is a risk you will not see me take so if you plan on buying my videos don't bother because it will not be in them.

It is not worth the danger, try to capture a crazy spot on video and it usually looks pretty benign. So far no one has ever landed at my home strip but I do it all the time, most bush pilots look at it and say that is crazy. My home strip is shown in the Idaho Backcountry DVD and it looks pretty easy. My point is that you can never feel the hart pounding danger from the places I land, Hollywood uses computers to amp it up, I don't.

On top of all this you have to do it multiple times to try and get the footage to edit together the view that want to give. What I need is a helicopter which is big bucks, people feel like they are already getting screwed paying 30.00 for a video, can you imagine the outcry when you add a Bell Jet Ranger with a Cineflex. I would have to charge 200.00 per video or more.

For those of you that wish you had not bought it send it back and I will refund your money.

As for where it was filmed you will have to thank the people that control "our" lands for not knowing that, I would love to say the location but that would just be dumb. I found that out the hard way already once!

As for instruction, I thought I did that (as to this is what works for me) but I am not responsible for your instruction so go get some! I am not sure what you are talking about on that one. You can never please all the people, some want more of this and less of that others want more of that and less of this.

The amount of time I have in this video is staggering, does it hurt my feelings that you don't like it, Yes. Will I get over it, Yes.

Well I could not let this review go so I went back and watched the video again (probably the 10th time since I finished it). I counted 3 times I mentioned Nflightcam, the first time was to make note of the skewed perspective the wide angle lenses gives, the 2nd time was to mention how the intervalometer pictures were accomplished and the 3rd was to point out the sand bar that we filmed the promo for Nflight that is on the DVD (which you can choose to watch or not choose to watch).

I am not going to say you can learn from this video because that would be saying I have made it for some intended purpose. I can say there is a lot of information about what works for me.

Here is what I am going to do, the first 6 people from this site to email me with address information and willing to write a review, for better or worse. The review needs to be more then a sentence and needs to be done within a few weeks of receiving the video, High Country Vol. 5. This is not a way to just get a free video... Please do not send your name unless you intend to follow through.
http://www.bentpropproductions.com has a place to send me e-mal.

Thanks,

Greg
