First C205 Annual and Weekend Flying

This past week I was anxious and excited to do my first annual on my C205. We finished it yesterday and I am really happy with the outcome. I showed up, flew the plane, drained the oil and started pulling panels/interior. I finished closing it up about 11:30pm last night. Everything went really well. Total cost, $350 plus the $17.50 air filter and oil. Having managed club aircraft and knowing what annuals can be, I was thrilled. The other great thing is that it validated that I found a good one.

So, to celebrate, we decided to make a lunch run with my friend in his RV-9a. So, I got to the airport this morning to do a quick test flight before putting the family in and all went well. The plan was to fly down to Spanish Fork (U77) for some Mexican eats, but there were a lot of showers in the area. We finally launched only to turn back after reaching the Barn on Antelope Island. So, the backup plan was Doolittle's which has great food. SF will have to wait yet another day. In the end, though, we got to fly and I'm just happy having my first annual behind me!

Hey Grassstrip, saw you and the RV taxi by my hangar yesterday early afternoon. I'm on the south ramp in row 700 at Ogden. I was going to go flying but made a call to the south and heard it was ugly down that way. Instead I drove to the Morgan airport and took photos of two funnel clouds over the airport while I was there.

Congrats on getting past the first annual Cory, it's a big sigh of relief I bet. 40Z looks great, and I bet it puts a smile on your face every time you open the hangar door. 8)

I too am in my first annual and things are going pretty smooth.

Thanks Matt! Yes it is a big relief. The more I fly her the more I'm falling in love with this plane. It really is the realization of a dream.

Glad to hear your annual is going smoothly. I can't wait for the next fly-in to check your plane out again and hopefully see the whole family...and meet the new addition!

Steve, I'm on Alpha where it makes the bend to the SW. Stop by if you see a white truck next to the hanger and say hi. The flying was actually nice over Syracuse and Antelope, but ugly over the mountains. Wow! Funnel clouds. Gnarly!

Re: First C205 Annual and Weekend Flying

Hey Russ,

I have. At the end of June I took off about 200# under gross, 8K DA. Took 1,400' and climbed out at 400 fpm. A few weeks later, took off about 80-85% of gross with a DA of just over 10K, 1,700' or so, 300 fpm climb, on a downsloping dirt/grass runway. Not something I plan to do regularly by any means, but I've been impressed with its performance.

Hey Grass Strip,

Was your 205 based in Northern IL at C77 back in the early 90's. I am pretty sure I used to fuel and move your plane when I was a college kid working the line. It was a really nice airplane then and it looks like its been well cared for. It is good to see you enjoying it.

Re: First C205 Annual and Weekend Flying

Possibly. Around that time (late 80s/early 90s...I'd have to check the logs to be sure) the then owner sold the plane to his son-in-law and it was relocated to CO.

We've definitely been enjoying her! It's amazing the history and commonality of places/people these machines can have.
