First Test: ContourHD 1080p cam

OK, here is a first test vid. These little digitals are super sensitive to vibration and movement - so you can see the "rolling" of the image when it moves around more. Gotta work on the mount, although not sure how much better I can get it. I have a 1/4-20 threaded rivnut on the top of my vertical stabilizer that I then put a RAM mount on. Might have to figure out something more "stiff".

Putting these in the cockpit is really a no go due to the horrible prop artifacts.

The video looks WAY better than the typical lipsticks though. I'll be working on modifying it to set up remote record control, audio from intercom, and power in the next few weeks.

Headed to Gravelly Valley this Saturday hopefully with Avidflyer and will do some more shooting.

Hopefully with the camera level this time...

Hey, not bad at all. The perspective from the top of the tail is great. Sound is not bad either. The view through plexiglass is always a compromise... so I like this.
When the mounting eliminates some of the side to side vibration you are going to have a winner.

Flying is dangerous. If you think otherwise, you are new at this sport. Mind the gravity not the gap.

Nice! The sound is pretty good...nothing worse than a mic that can't auto adjust its gain. My little HD cam audio gets completely blown out inside the cockpit.

I turned the mic gain down to 3/100 -the control software is pretty cool. Will try 720p @ 60 frames/sec, that might improve the "rolling". Don't know.

Re: First Test: ContourHD 1080p cam

Em that's a beautiful plane, and a unique place to put the cam. I was undecided on which action cam to buy, the Contour or the GoProHero HD, so I got both. I have since found the Contour to be the easier cam to operate. Originally I had the Contour mounted on a wing strut but got an excessive amount of those waves in the video. I'm not sure if it's caused by vibration or wind, so I put it inside the cockpit, mounted above and in front of me. During flight, I'm able to rotate it to get views from either left or right outside the aircraft, or at myself or a good looking female passenger in back. :D There is still waves occasionally, but not as much as when it was on the wing strut. Until I learn more, it will stay where it is at. The GoPro Hero HD I thought has the better color reproduction and overall video quality is better, though the lense is a lot like a fish-eye lense. So I use that with the head-mount, to get a forward looking cockpit view.
