Was out cruising around the Sierra's today and I dropped in O22 for a potty break. Really nice airfield. I landed on the pavement since I was unfamiliar and took off 29. Anyone know why the CDF plane is sitting off in the grass all by it's lonesome by the campground?

The CDF S-2 parked there is one of the retired piston powered ones that is going to be made into a memorial at Columbia.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

Kinda figured something like that was going on. They have rubbermaid trashcans under the nacelles to catch all the oil. That thing was leaking like a siv.

Hard to believe they used to fly them things off of carriers.

If ya' call ahead and talk to the airport manager you can take a tour of the S-2. This especially goes for school fieldtrips etc. Columbia just ain't the same without the rumble of the big ol' radials on hot summer days...
