First Video... Beech 18... Buying a C170

This is my first attempt at an edited video. I bought a C170 from guy who offered to come pick me and my ferry pilot up in his Beech 18. How could I not document it. Anyway, here is part 1...

Let me know what you think...

Glad to see a cool backcountry-esque plane coming to KY. When I left 4 years ago, it seemed like the scene was dominated by cirrus and bonanza. Would love to ride in an 18 one day.

Man you are right about the cirrus (and diamond) and bonanza domination. I learned on a Diamond, and then couldn't find anywhere to learn tailwheel, so I bought one. Now not quite the bushplane, but it's a step in the right direction :)

Yesterday was the first day I got to fly, and had an absolute blast learning tailwheel....

What field is that? Flying my 180 back to KY in June to visit family and would love to check out some grass strips. It'll be the first time having the 180 there.

It's Georgetown (27K). If you're going to be close, let me know. Maybe I can round up a few guys for a breakfast run or something.

WOW!!! Envy, well, probably not envy as I am happy for you. Lucky guy to be able to fly one of those old classics. The Beech-18 is such a sweet looking old plane.

Re: First Video... Beech 18... Buying a C170

Very cool video, and a very cool ol' airplane. Nothing quite like the sound of a radial, is there? Loping along at 1800 rpm in cruise--that's something most of us never get to do.

The old flight instructor in me has to say, though, that taxiing without a hand on the yoke isn't a good idea, especially if there's any wind at all.

All in all, a very enjoyable 11 minute interlude.

Thanks for all the positive responses. Criticism is welcome too.

Anyway, here is part 2... the approach and landing. Let me know what you guys think?

Is that your friend in the right seat? If so, why the hell did he get to ride up there when you're the one shelling out the $$ to buy a 170 from the guy?

Hahaha. Yeah it's my CFI/Ferry Pilot friend. We negotiated half his day rate for him to sit up there. I like to barter :D

Bartering is good! So is your video (other than the garden at the beginning! )

It's been an absolute blast flying the 170 this week. Can't wait for our future adventures together. Here is a video of the ride home after purchasing...

Very enjoyable! I could "feel" your excitement--I suppose because I've been there, and done that, and frankly I still get a bit excited every time I take my Little Red Bird up, even if I'm just staying in the area--and that's after having her for some 800 hours and many, many years and hours of flying other airplanes before that. Ain't committing aviation just great?
