Fish Lake, ID

Has anyone been into Fish Lake strip this summer :?: We are planning a trip in there the end of July. We heard there was still snow on the strip at JC Fly-In in June. Is it dry enough to use :?: Thanks all :!:

I flew over it last week (12 June) while doing other work in the backcountry and it is free of snow. I would say to use caution while landing, looks like a few squirrel holes. Have fun

The trail crew was rumored t be up there last week. You should call the work center on the Lochsa for more information. The trail boss *will* return your call with a report of the condition.

If I remember correctly, 208-942-3113 will get you in the right ballpark.

Re: Fish Lake, ID

I made it into Fish Lake for a nice end to the work week. Bugs were still TERRIBLE which is rare for this late into August. Usually after the middle of August the bugs die off and are almost non existant but they are running late this year. It was 30 degrees this morning at daylight which was a nice break from the mid 90 degree temps we have been seeing lately in Spokane. The strip is in fine shape for tailwheel aircraft and OK for my 182 but there are some low spots and holes that could get ugly for a nosedragger if not careful. Our friend fired up his 206 to depart this morning and the wolves really opened up and howled for about 10 minutes just east of the lake. Didn't fish this time but heard the fish were smaller than normal due to the late late summer.

Who did you pick up at CPTPA? I landed there last year and tied down for the night.

Great pics thanks for posting! I'm definitely going to hit Fish Lake next time I'm up there.
