I thought Mickey World had a Restricted area overhead?? Did that go away?

There is a TFR over Disney World, but as often as not when I'm in Orlando class B, I get vectored right through it, most of the time if I'm on an IFR flight plan.

ATC can go thru any TFR at any time for any reason.

I'm sure, since I haven't been violated, but it does seem to make one wonder of the necessisity of a TFR if it's regularly ignored by ATC.
I'm not beating on ATC as I assume they are not the ones that create TFR's, but if it's regularly ignored, how necessary is it?

It only goes to 3000 feet if I recollect correctly. Easy to go over... I've done it a lot, both IFR and VFR.

I started flying out of XO4, which is a few miles away from the mouse house. Back then, 1981 or so it was wide open and no restrictions. Then Epcot was put on line and the first and main reason for the restricted airspace, there was not such thing as a TFR back then, was Disney got concerned that a pilot would get blinded by the laser show they put on every night over the lake. If IFR they would send ya right through the airspace alot of the time, if using flight following VFR they would suggest you stay clear, Then came 9-11... The rest is history.... Heck, just for a brief history lesson there was a runway right on the property where Stumpy and Pluto parking lots are now, they used it alot during construction of the mouse house and for a short time after opening the magic kingdom. Then the legal dept got worried some doctor would screw up while taking off to the north and stuff it right into main street and that got X's put on the runway for good.... As a bonus question and for 10 points, did ya know if Walt Disney would have lived long enough he would not have been allowed to enter the property. Back then they had a strict dress code and no employee could have facial hair,,, yup, thats right, Walts mustache would have kept him out of Walt Disney World. !!!!

It's not that it's ignored, it's that you need permission from somebody who can give it. We can. If it's in my airspace I automatically become one who can grant permission. As a general rule the FAA does not create TFR's. We will deal with whoever is the controlling agency for the TFR. We also won't let airplanes get in the way of people who really need TFR's. Like fire fighting operations. These guys jobs are hard enough, they don't need to be dodging unnecessary aircraft.
