Flight Attendant/Backup Pilot

Coming from the guy that wants to put coin slots on the crapper, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I'm hard pressed to think of one Flight Attendant that I'd want to at the controls of an aircraft. Of course, the flying public wouldn't go for it...assuming they knew. Anyway, thought you all would get a kick out of this Einstein idea.

RYANAIR TO CUT CO-PILOTS AS COST-SAVING MEASURE? "'Why does every plane have two pilots?' asks Michael O’Leary, chief executive officer of Ryanair Holdings Plc, the largest low-cost airline in Europe. 'Really, you only need one pilot,' he tells Bloomberg Businessweek in the Sept. 6 edition. 'Let’s take out the second pilot. Let the bloody computer fly it.' What happens if the pilot has a heart attack? One member of the cabin crew on all Ryanair flights would be trained to land a plane. 'If the pilot has an emergency, he rings the bell, he calls her in,' O’Leary says. 'She could take over.'" (Bloomberg)

Cost saving measure.... huh? Co-pilots on low costs carriers already make peanuts, how about just fire all the flight attendants and put a vending machine at the front of the plane.

Re: Flight Attendant/Backup Pilot

Just another typical RYAN Air press gag, that will yield them many thousands of dollars (pounds) in revenue, which they can then blow on some idiotic measure.
I'd vote to take both pilots out and install a hamster with a heavy English accent.

That's what I was thinking Matt. There used to be a guy at one of my former airlines that used to say to the flight attendant, "Honey, you know shy you're here don't you? A Coke machine is too big to put in here (the cockpit)." Said in his southern accent. It was funny to hear him say it, although I don't think they thought it was funny.

That reminds me of the future airbus flight crew. It will consist of a pilot and a dog... The pilot is there to feed the dog and the dog is there to bite the pilot if he touches the controls..
