Flight down the Pacific Coast

Today I headed West to Point Reyes and flew up the coast over Dillion Beach to Bodega Bay. I've been wanting to do that flight for a while and have tried several times but I always hit fog. It's all wildlife area so stayed up high but it sure is pretty over there. I proposed to my wife on Dillion Beach. The flight over was awesome but we got a big blow out of the North come through today. I had 25-30 off the nose going back and when I got within ear shot of the AWOS it was 340 17 gust 24. Our runway is 02-20. 40 degress off at 24 is pretty sporty in my 535lb airplane that lands at 35mph. I was happy when I got it back into the hangar that's for sure. Even taxiing was scary.

Bodega Bay is spooky.

I picture a good looking blond in an old Aston Martin DB2 being chased by seagulls. Just another great Alfred Hitchcock movie. Image

I stayed at a place called Sea Ranch once. They had a paved runway.

Nice flight Avid! You gotta love federal holidays. We took a flight of three into Willows to hit Nancy's for brunch/lunch and holy cow was it howling over there. Even with it right down the pipe it was pretty sporty - closest thing to a vertical landing I've done in a few years. Amazingly back at Grass Valley it was out of the east at only 10-15 kts!

I hope the wx is that good week after next for me. Plan to do Cavefest, Palm Springs, Big Bear, Oceano, Half Moon Bay, Shelter Cove.

Good pix Joey.

It is spooky. I married Ex-1 at the old Bodega schoolhouse. I shoulda listened to the seagulls.

My original plan was to meet some guys out of Red Bluff for breakfast up there but our plans fell through so I went to the Coast instead. Glad it worked out that way. Even on a nearly East heading coming back yesterday my ground speed was in the 50's. I would have ran out of gas before I ever got to Willows going straight North :D The guys up at Rancho Tehama and Red Bluff said it was gusting to 27 up there by 0830. Strange weather..it was 88 degrees here in Fairfield at 9pm last night.

Rob you'll be close to my neck of woods on your trip. If you get weathered out and need a place to stay for the night drop me a line. I'm only about 40 miles from Point Reyes by air.

That's awesome! I can watch that over and over. Neat to see the planes flying around, too.
