Flight-Resource bought by McFarlane.

I went to the McFarlane site recently and found a note that they have bought Flight-Resource and are now a MT Propeller dealer. Sounds like a good deal for all. A good company merged into another good company. I don’t usually like change, but can’t see how this will be bad for GA.

Congratulations to the seller and the buyer for finding a deal they could agree to.

So, will McFarlane be a BCP sponsor?

Re: Flight-Resource bought by McFarlane.

Flight Resource grew steady over the last 14 years to the point where the two of us (Larry and John) were absolutely limited by the time it takes to do paperwork, billing, taxes, shipping and advertising. We had this exact conversation with Dave McFarlane at a trade show and he introduced the idea of merging with McFarlane so he could take those functions and allow us to continue to grow with his resources.

It was easy to come to terms and the MT factory was also very happy and supportive, knowing the fine reputation McFarlane has for outstanding design, manufacture, pricing and support.

We made the merger official October 31 and it is such a great fit, the blend seems almost seamless. They have the most talented team of engineers, designers, craftsmen and support we could ever ask for. Their business philosophy and ideology is in unison with ours....take care of your customers and good things will happen naturally.

We have already increased the number of prop models and qty in stock. McFarlane has been trained and approved by MT to assemble and make minor repairs to MT props.

And yes, one of the first things I asked the marketing team to do was get with Zane and become a sponsor of this fantastic resource.

Thank you all very much!!

I was hoping the back story was this positive. Great news, and congratulations again.

Hey John, quick question. For us Canadians that have to O/H our props every 10 years, where do we send the MTs? Do we have to ship them to McFarlane or you guys? Or can our local prop shops O/H them?
Thanks for supporting here and congrats on the merger.

Send it to Tiffin Air in Tiffin Ohio. Tiffin is set up to do MT overhauls. I had my prop resealed by them, I delivered it to them personally and toured their shop, excellent shop. I was very happy with their work.

If I have to ship it to the US it adds a lot of cost. Hence my question. I was wondering if my local shop on Edmonton can do it as I can just drive it there...

Re: Flight-Resource bought by McFarlane.

This link shows you all the MT authorized repair stations in the world.
https://mt-propeller.com/en/entw/services_usa.htm

Some do very little MT work, some do much more. Tiffin Aire is one of the shops on our short list of really good ones. All our experiences with the shops in Canada have been good, so yes you can keep the work 'north of the border'.

Shipping cost of for a 2-blade to USA is less than $300, so it may be worth it to make some calls to USA MT shops, get estimates of time and price and see if it makes sense to ship it down here.

Another plan some of our early customers have done is to trade their current 10 yr old MT prop for a new one or a 0TSOH one that has all the latest design and features like the Nickel leading edges, Epoxy paint and Kevlar reinforced blades.

Flight Resource also stocks sets of 0TSOH blades that have all these new features that we offer in exchange for about half the cost of buying new blades with the exact same features and available immediately.

What I am trying to say is there are many options available to an MT prop owner that you may not have known about or considered. Call or write us to explore all your options before you do anything.

Thank you all so very much for your support. This group has always felt like a family to me and is clearly the very best group of real flyers on the web!

Thanks for the reply John!

Re: Flight-Resource bought by McFarlane.

My MT prop purchased from Flight-Resource was shipped to Propworks in EDMONTON, assembled by them, and delivered to me in Airdrie.

That is a great idea. First, I love my MT that I got from FR almost 10 yrs ago and they are a good outfit. But, I am leary of shipping. Here's my story. Back in 2000 my Hartzell was condemned by the good reputation shop I use about 200 miles north of me. I think they thought they had me and wanted over $8K for a new 88 in McCauley. I called Boise and they had a brand new one for about $2K less so I bought it. When I asked who would deliver it he said I'd have to go to Sioux City airport to pick it up since he would not ship by truck-----too many problems. Well, here is the box 19 yrs later and the tip of the Mac was through the box but I decided not hurt. Then in 2010 I bought the 2 blade MT just because I wanted it. I was supposed to pick it up in person but there was an emergency so it was shipped FedEx a little later. When it arrived, the tip was through the cardboard box and had a little damage. Not much but when you spend that much I didn't want less than perfect so made arrangements to get another. FR would send another and I would then return the one I had. I was notified it was shipped and in a container good for Africa. When FedEx showed and opened the door, one end was on the floor and the other leaned against the stack of freight in the front. I thought, here we go again but it was a wood crate with the prop hub bolted and the rest of the box was sort of just covering but not touching the prop. It must have jiggled off the top of the stack but seemed to be okay. Freight people must try hard to break stuff or maybe I'm just unlucky. My prop has been inside except for the hours it has flown and still looks like brand new.

Re: Flight-Resource bought by McFarlane.

I have bought new props from two different outfits, and one came in a cardboard box and yes, it had damaged to a tip. The other was my MTV-15 and it was in a beefy plywood crate, built and bolted down by Germans and in perfect condition.
