Robert "Bub" Wright, aka Skylane, passed away in November of 2011. He was a beloved community member and will be missed.

I couldn't find the Paul Claus video on discovery.com, but there's some fun footage of Mythbusters' hottie Kari Byron.

I think the show is called The Alaska Experiment. Here's the program schedule:

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

It's "Into the Wild" turned into a reality show. There's some nice scenery and aerial footage with occasional shots of the turbine Otter, but it's mostly about groups of people who have limited to no outdoors experience being dropped into the wilderness to live for 90 days in remote cabins. All risks of real physical harm and hardship have been carefully mitigated. I"m sure Alaskans are having a good laugh at this.

I watched most of the show last night. It was almost painful to see they way these people conducted themselves. I am sure that a portion of it was due to how it was edited but none the less it won't be part of my viewing future.

In agreement...

Yes,
Needless to say, the show wasn't what we had anticipated. The only thing cool about it was the scenery. When we realized our mistake, we went to bed :)

I really like the DVD/video Bush Pilots of Alaska. It's the best quality of any of the backcountry flying videos I've seen, both in terms of production and filming quality. It was made by professionals. There's great flying around the Wrangells with Paul Claus and a lot of other nice footage. And not a bumbling Cheekako in sight. :) Of course, I AM one, so I'm curious about what Real Alaskans think of it.

My wife and I sat and watched this last night. It was hysterical to me, especially having been in and out of the bush up here for over 35 years........gawd it was funny watching those poor folks. I guess it's a reality show that's gonna be on each week. These folks have to survive for 3 months and the scenery last night shows that it is Fall.........that means it's gonna snow on em......roflmao!!!! Can't wait to see what trubble they get into.....

My favorite part was when the couple, who are afraid about living in a tent cabin among the bears, decided to blow a whistle at a nearby bear. I guess the idea was to see if it would scare the bear away. No response on the first blast, but on the second, the bear stood up to a pretty respectable height and looked around like "what's for dinner?" I wonder which of them can run faster? Maybe we'll find out on the next episode.

But Grouch, don't laugh too hard or you might be dropped for 90 days into Newark, with only a studio apartment and a PC running Vista to survive.

I'd want to have my shottygun with me for sure for protection from all the local wildlife!!!!! That was funny about the bear, especially the little dancing sidesteps. Did you get a load of the bratty girls in the cabin raising cain with dad about how his boots were turned? Act like that in my camp and you'd be sleeping on the ground outside for sure, daughter or not.

It's gonna be a long 3 months for those folks. Then again, it's probably been a long 30 years. If I were their Dad, I'd feed them or me to the bears.
