Flying dreams

I had two doozies in the last couple weeks.

In the first I'm wandering around a giant cruise ship, looking for an opening big enough to get the plane out so I can take off. It seems I had just landed in the central atrium, and had somehow mislaid the access point that was obviously there, or else I couldn't have landed in the first place, right? The passengers and crew were all friendly, and no one seemed put out, like it was a no big deal daily occurrence. I had watched a show about the "Empress of the Sea" a few days before, the biggest ship in the world, and no doubt that put the bug in my head. I woke up before the takeoff.

The second dream, just last night, took place at the 17 or 19 K elevation of the Mount Everest highlands, it seems that I had a friend who was a pilot for.... Tiger Woods. It was some kind of resort or something, and as the sun went down Tiger started talking about wanting to go into town. His pilot and I looked at each other, the conditions were deteriorating, the wind was coming up and an already spooky strip was getting even worse. Somehow a few minutes later, all three of us were in the plane, I don't remember the launch, and en route to "town". Tiger changed his mind, and wanted to go a nightclub, again my pilot friend and I just looked at each other. Oh boy, here we go again! Later, with no transition, we found ourselves back in the airplane (the nightclub had bingo BTW) and now Tiger was flying, and the conditions had worsened. I remember the strip being short and steep, and the wind was on our tail, but I woke up before the landing.

I couldn't make this stuff up, it really happened, sort of. #-o

Disclaimer: I'm not a shrink, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once.

Sounds like you were potty trained by your mother a bit too early. [-X

Re: Flying dreams

Man, I hear you on the wacky flying dreams. Your celebrity cameo though is pretty funny. Sounds like Tiger needed to get to town for a fresh batch of ladies.

My flying dreams almost always cover these scenarios:

1. Trying to takeoff from a city street, taxiing around looking for an opening in the lines and trees.
2. Flying below tree tops and power lines along streets
3. Where is the plane? Anxiety about where I parked it.
4. Arrive back to find plane balled up by wind.
5. Too many pax.
6. Dreams where I am flying without a plane, and having to flap my arms like I'm swimming.

Damn, as a matter a fact pizza WAS involved that evening before the Tiger/Mt. Everest dream, you're good ASW!

I remember the first flying dream I had that was not as fun and outrageous as the REAL flying I'd done the day before. That's when you know you're living right.

For those who saw the movie "Avatar", remember when they were learning to fly their very own personal dragon? Director Cameron got across real well I thought the amazement of the main character in having his own personal means of flight. While watching this in a crowded theatre, all I could think was by the time the movie was over, conditions would be just right for a sunset cruise down the Portnuef Valley, which is what happened later. I also thought that of all those other movie goers watching those flying scenes, how many could go home, and jump in their own flying machine like I can? Poor bastards.... Kind of like going to the Imax movie at West Yellowstone and seeing the flick "Yellowstone", after just flying in. Who needs dreams with real life that good!

Re: Flying dreams

I'll have a vivid flying dream every now and then, but they aren't fun ones.

Problem with the airplane, usually a big load of ice, and then popping out the bottom of a real low overcast and seeing the ground rush up, knowing there's not a damn thing I can do to keep from hitting no matter what I push or pull to get the airplane to do what I want.

Yuck...

Re: Flying dreams

First flying dream I ever had I was about five. I slept in the top bunk. I had the potty thing all mastered by then but I dreamed I was flying and falling and flying again and finally making the landing. There must be more hidden meanings in there somewhere but I never had a chance to get this analyzed before so what do you think?

Oh yeah, one more thing, next morning I woke up on the floor.

Re: Flying dreams

I have never dreamed about flying...just the fact that I AM flying is something I never dreamed about. :D
The dream is that I'm really doing this thing called flying..better than anything I could dream about..well exept for some things =P~ !
The closest thing to flying in my dreams is when I drove my '49 Dodge off a cliff...long trip down..never hit bottom because I woke up before I hit.

Re: Flying dreams

I do dream # 1 and 2. Lots of times I get off the ground and fly below the wires trying to find a stop to climb through. I also do the dream #6 but will not tell you what I am wearing.

Done a lot of freeway landings in dreams :D

There have been "several" incidents in my flying career up north where that dream came within a second or two from being reality, but I was always able to figure an "out" to my situation. That "out" usually consisted of yelling, "Fuck Me!" loud enough to scare the dog awake, and getting mad enough at myself to somehow shove the throttle another nanometer forward to get that extra horsepower out of the engine to keep me flying. Then the trick was to play pilot microsecond by microsecond, pushing and pulling, twisting and turning, until I flew out of whatever trouble I was in. I guess the secret was to get mad, and not give up.

In the dreams, that "out" doesn't work, and we hit and tumble. One of those where you wake up fighting, with a heart rate at warp speed.

Like I said.

Yuck......

Re: Flying dreams

Mine goes like this. I am flying low and see wires, they are to close to the ground to go under. No matter how hard I pull on the stick I can't climb over the wires. I never hit them, then I wake up.

Funny thing is. My plane doesn't even have a stick. You would think this is a nightmare, but I wake up happy.

Whats up doc?
