believe that the speaker is Lori Macnichol, and , despite what some of the on-line "experts", which i'm not, think, lori and her hand-picked instructors are some of the very best in their field. i truly wish some people would keep their somewhat un-informed opinions to themselves. flying in our back-country is inherently dangerous, it comes with the territory. if u crash your pride and joy, instuctor with u or not, look in the mirror for the real reason. like my very first instructor, said when i used to sweat emergency training, "can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!"

I really enjoyed "flying Idaho" month or so back -- Flew with Sparky Imeson my self(before his untimely passing) -wonderful experience and instruction. Don't believe I'll be setting in on Lori's "wings program" -some of her instructors are very good. I'm really too busy to go -maybe next year.

Lori came and spoke to our flying club at the Nampa airport earlier this year. It was very informative and I would recommend going to one of her seminars. Wish I could make it but it probably wont happen this year. Have fun whoever is going. :D

I moved.

I do find 100 at w20 is cooler than 95 at HIO, and my boat is definitely getting more use...

The beach on the lake usually is not worth getting caught looking. No offense to anyone, but there are more bad tattoo's in ML than anyplace I have ever been....

Just be thankful that low class people go to the great trouble to mark themselves up with bad multi-colored tattoos for easy identification by the rest of us.

Re: Flying the Idaho Backcountry 'Easy as 1, 2, 3!'

Bad tats are ok ......if they are on a great canvas  ..........but I gather that was what you were infering was not worth the looking. Best of wishes on your new location, hope it all works well for you.

I could give you a little background on some of the, ah, er, unique people in the Moses Lake area. Larson AFB closed about 1964 and with the empty base housing, plus a lot of empty homes, the 'social services' people in the greater Seattle area encouraged the relocation to ML of their 'habitually unemployed' since the welfare dollers would go farther with the now cheap housing. Those who needed it received relocation assistance. Also a Job Corp center and program was started up(good program in many ways-if you don't look at $/yr/student). The many who wash out for various reasons (behaviorial problems, or not willing to take a 4th, 5th, or 6th chance to be 'productive'-in a government program, etc) tended to merge with the newly imported local talent, and helped to fill out the local population within a couple decades. Job Corp continues to this day to import 'trainees'. Also, WA making a 'illegal alien' recruiting video to play in Mexico, touting our wonderful state social services has produced an....interesting assortment of people. (Meth, anyone?)
The farm families, ranchers and 'workers' are good people and 'salt of the earth' types.

Re: Flying the Idaho Backcountry 'Easy as 1, 2, 3!'

Can I hijack my own thread? I am going to anyways...

Coming from Portland, I don't notice the meth heads around much, maybe the density is just less than PDX so I don't notice. We have gone to several of the freebie things offered, movie in the park, concerts, and the crowd is what I expect, but no druggies.

There is quite a population of Hispanic and Slavic, which is good for the wife, now that she will be supporting my dumb ass. They tend to not go to the dentist until things are painful, and that usually means more work.

Almost all of the "locals" I have met have been good people. Some with tat's that cause an interesting first impression. Most of the canvas that the tat's are on should be covered, although a few catch you off guard...

I wish it had a thai food place, Fred Meyer, and Costco. Mexican food is good and plentiful though!

Re: Flying the Idaho Backcountry 'Easy as 1, 2, 3!'

So I'm interested? How was the class for those who went.
I think it's great that there are folks out there that want to share a little knowledge and that someone wants to go learn.
Hell, we can't all reinvent the wheel! All a person can do is gather as much information as we can and the make our own decisions and go with that and be responsible for our decisions!
I'm glad I got some help along the way as there is know way to afford all the mistakes! Or live thru some of the really stupid ones!
Thanks GT
