Flying Western B.C. and the Yukon

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Flying Western B.C. and the Yukon

Hi all ~ been a while. But I did finally have a flying adventure appropriate to share. Posted some photos on the CPS site, Zane saw them there and invited me to post here.

Below is the link to a Picasa Album I just finished ~ emphasis is on the aerial photography and I deliberately kept personal stuff to a minimum ~ idea being to offer a feel for the perspective that only flying the beautiful country in Western British Columbia and the Yukon can offer.

For almost the entire month of July I was the guest of Erissa Yong-Wilson. She kindly gave me the opportunity to get some instructional time in with the CFI at the Cobalt Flight School she owns in Pitt Meadows B.C. flying in her 172. Then on July 16th - it was off to the Yukon in her beautiful 182 "Rudolph, the red-nosed Cessna" (equipped with both a 530 & an Auracle engine monitor that had grown men drooling more than once :D ) to participate in John Lovelace's "Yukon 2010 Midnight Sun Challenge."

I came back to Pitt Meadows after some flying that now has me completely understanding why you are all hooked on mountain/backcountry flying -- and as if all I'd already done wasn't enough -- I also got a chance to fly to Harrison Lake in a float plane.

My arms are black n' blue from pinching myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming the whole thing. Incredible experience I'm deeply grateful for and obviously will never forget.

Don't ever take for granted how fortunate you all are to be able to do what you do. To fly where you can, and in the way that brought you all together here with a common bond is a special way to "slip the surly bonds" indeed . Take care all ~ Susan

Very cool, I flew a lot of that area a few years back. I try to tell people how awesome it is and show them pictures, but until you have done it you just can't understand.

Great pics! CYPK is where I'm learning to fly, and a lot of that scenery is familiar! Pitt Lake is where we practice spins, dives and stalls. Flying north is the goal once I get my ticket - so thanks for a bit more inspiration.
