Flying with Akaviator

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Flying with Akaviator

Well BCP readers, I've sold the Sedan.

It's been an absolutely delightful plane to own and fly and never failed to put a smile on my face. I'm sure the new owner is going to love it.

WHAT'S NEXT???

I've decided to buy a 180 or 185. My goal is a corrosion free and nice looking plane inside and out. Basic VFR panel is great.

Stay tuned!

The gem you speak of is a pretty penny. Do not be dismayed in your quest. I found my first plane, a 65 185D with an IO-550, with good bones. Its gonna take a little work to get her spit and polished but good bones none the less. They are out there just take your time. Then find a great instructor to get her fitting like a glove.

Consider posting an ad in Barnstormers and Trade-A-Plane. That's how I found mine. Owner didn't even know he wanted to sell the plane till he saw my ad.

There are a couple nice ones on Alaska’s list. I would go look at as many as you can. Get a good idea of what’s out there. I also wouldn’t rule out a higher cost plane, as you really never know what the owner is willing to negotiate.

I'm going to look at a plane Sunday in AK and I have my eye on a few more in the Pacific Northwest. Should be the perfect bird for me out there somewhere.

Thanks, I've been in training in Seattle and it's taken a lot of my attention. I've got a lot of the little stuff done though like insurance and title search, and I'm actually flying out to look at the plane on Monday and do a pre buy inspection. From all I've seen and heard from the folks who maintain it that it's in excellent condition so I should be closing the deal within a few more days and once training is finished up flying my new baby home.

And I’m an owner!

1954 C180 O-470-J. 5338TT 255SMOH. MASA STOL kit, HD Cleveland brakes, absolutely gorgeous! Same owner for the last 33 years, kept in a temperature controlled hangar the entire time. It’s easily a 9/10 in and out. I’m thrilled to have found such a beauty.

Jackpot! Wow, you found a beauty, good for you! Put some BAS harnesses in her if it doesn't already have any and some 8:50 tires and you are good to go. Have fun!

It's got shoulder harnesses already so I'm good to go there. I'll putting 31" Bushwheels and a Baby Bushwheel on it once she's home to Alaska.
