Freefall through the stratosphere

http://redbullstratos.com/

Red Bull Stratos wrote:Red Bull Stratos, a mission to the edge of space, seeks to surpass limits that have existed for 50 years. Felix Baumgartner will undertake a stratospheric balloon flight to 120,000 feet and attempt a freefall jump targeted to reach – for the first time in history – supersonic speeds.

Driven by Red Bull and a stellar team of scientists and specialists, the mission aims to deliver valuable lessons in human endurance and high-altitude technology.

Re: Freefall through the stratosphere

Just for a clarification, Col Kittinger's jump from over 100 thousand feet was a droguefall, the Redbull team is going for freefall.

There's also a misconception about his dive and that he broke the speed of sound, especially given that it would be almost impossible to do at 100,00ft. The difference between 100k, 120k is huge in air density.

My brother has been a part of this project for awhile now, and I'd very much like to see it succeed and have everyone safe in the process.

Correct Chris, I just didn't want to get that argument going again, been in it enough over the years.

I love the way he lights up a smoke at the end. I'm kinda surprised they didn't figure out how to smoke while in the space suit.
