$125,000 (before you laugh, price a good solid 182, then add the 300hp AirPlains, STOL mods, auto pilot, decent radios and a Landes fork). Sorry for the limited pictures, but I am 53 and not big on photo hosting and tech stuff, but I sure can text or email a bunch of them. Tail is N70987.
A little background: I am a long-time BCP daily lurker, but not too fond of posting and playing tummy-sticks with folks on the internet. Only posting on BCP for a bit, then off to Barnstormers and T-A-P. I figured that the audience here was probably the target market, so here we go:
I have an opportuntiy to upgrade to a different bird, but not to own two planes again (been there, done that, not fun). No rush to sell, and the annual is going to get done first week in May. If someone is interested and wants a pre-buy it will be during the annual, so I don't have unkown mechanics ripping into my girl. If she doesn't sell, then she is going to get some spending done on her (adding a BRS chute, two G-5's and EI GCR-30P) at annual and then will fly with me for a few more years.
Low total-time airframe (4,488hrs), Continental zero timed IO-520 (300hp for 5 minutes, 285hp continuous), GAMI injectors, high time engine (1,852hrs), but fantastic maintenance history (formerly State of California, professionally flown, low power settings, orbiting for hours), cylinders have never been off, compressions are great, low oil use, no leaks. Complete and detailed logs. AirPlains conversion done in 2002 (zero timed 6/1/2002). I operate it per book, 16.4GPH down low at 75%, 13.5GPH up high. Has been fed 100LL and run ROP since new. EI engine monitoring and fuel totalizer makes it easy. My philosophy is gas is cheap, engines are not. Starts easy and fast, hot or cold. Three blade scimitar prop, pretty darned quiet, unless you go full in and full power, then she sounds like a beast. Momma is a fan of fast, so that issue is solved, fast it shall be. A 165mph 182 with big tires and R-STOL is a pretty cool combo of fast, slow and comfortable.
Full Robertson STOL with droop ailerons and fences. Some love it, some hate it. I LOVE IT. This bird will fly at 40MPH, stable as can be, no bad habits, other than don't hang full flaps in nasty cross-winds, unless you have a wide runway. 10 degrees is ok in X-winds, but full flaps and you WILL be wanting for aileron authority. Lands slow and short, gets off the ground in STOOPID short distances, but if I say how short, the internet wizzards will call B.S. without ever seeing the bird. I have a bunch of time in 170B's, straight tail 182's, 180's and a LSA Cub clone. I would take this plane to any spot in Idaho that I would take any of those listed. It seriously hauls a load, gets off fast, climbs swell and is fast in cruise.
The bird was operated by the Cali Government and is equipped with a observer (single) rear seat and a big observer window on the passenger left side. Visibility from the rear seat is truly amazing. I have a set of matching LakeVue jump seats that I intended to install, but I only operate it as a two-place hunting, fishing, camping and travel machine. Hauling rifles, camping gear, coolers, whiskey, fish and deer out of Idaho is what it is configured for. She has a few chips in the paint, but overall, looks amazing. No bent metal, no hail.
Landes nose fork with 7.00, and 8.50's on the mains. The perfect tire package for a 182. Tail stays high enough, prop clearance is great, and bumps are erased by the mains. A good way to protect the glass-chin too. Original wheel panties are available, but it would be a shame to defile her like that.
Paint is great, interior is great, panel is King and EI, with a HSI and a S-TEC 50 AP with altitude hold. I am a VFR pilot, so the panel doesn't mean much to me, but the AP is super cool for distance flying. Seats are updated, adjustable and are fantastic. Glass is great. BAS shoulder harnesses (a must) are installed for both front seats.
ADS-B out by uAvionix, King digital transponder. LED landing and taxi lights for recognition too. Rosen visors for those sunny days too. 406 ELT for that O-crap moment.
Long range fuel (77 gal useable), Monarch caps (some hate them, I love them, no leaks, new O-rings).
A serious bonus in today's world is that a 182 is cheap to insure.
Hangared at KSFF (Spokane, WA) and I travel to and from KTIW (Gig Harbor, WA) and Boise often. Arrangements can be made.
