FS:Aeromatic Propeller F200 hub, High Cruise

$1,100. PM me for photo's. This is an Aeromatic Propeller F200 hub taken from a Continental Engine 0-300 145 HP from a Swift aircraft. This is a version called a "High Cruise", if you look at the first pic you will see the hydrolic hose that allows this to be adjusted at high altitudes to maximize efficiency. (PM me about using this on a 0-320)

The Aeromatic propeller is a fully variable pitch propeller that is virtually equivalent to a constant speed propeller. Current Retail Price for this hub is $1,800+

NOT SHOWN are the ferrals that fit on the propeller blades but ARE INCLUDED with this hub.

This hub is already at Tarver Propellers, LLC in Fallon, NV. No shipping is required. It is there to receive new blades (NOT INCLUDED) but because of a divorce I can no longer finish the project.

The Aeromatic prop needs no governor, cockpit control nor a hollow crankshaft. It is entirely controlled by dynamic forces, centrifugal forces, air loads etc. The typical weight of the Aeromatic is about 34#. It will allow your engine to develop 100% horse power for takeoff, climb and cruise.

These propellers were certified on most of the production airplanes during the big airplane boom right after WW II. Pipers, Stinsons, Ercoups, T-crafts, Bellancas, Swifts, Aeroncas, Cessnas, Meyers, Monocoupes, Fairchilds, Grumman Widgeon, Johnson Rocket, Ryan Navions and more plus some foreign airplanes.

These props will be especially useful on many home built airplanes in the range of 40 HP or less up through some 260 HP engines. It is a potential propeller for some 30,000 C-172 airplanes. The Aeromatic propeller is a self-contained unit requiring no controls from the propeller to the cockpit. The propeller is mounted on the engine crankshaft in the conventional fashion using standard attaching parts for standard mountings.

I'd like to learn more about the "high cruise" aeromatic prop, and the "hydrolic hose that allows this to be adjusted at high altitudes to maximize efficiency". Can you elaborate or provide a link to this info?

Re: FS:Aeromatic Propeller F200 hub, High Cruise

Tarver could give a better explaination because I never got to fly with it but here's what I know. The prop is adjusted to a specific rpm range at the altitude you are at (for arguments sake lets say sea level). You add or subtract weights on the arms to get to an acceptable static rpm. Then when you take off it acts like a climb prop and as you level to cruise it adjusts more pitch for speed. this works until you exceed a certain altitude. So as you pass say 7,000 msl the prop begins to lose efficency. You can solve this by landing and changing the weights or (this is where the high cruise comes in) this high cruise adjusts the pitch to maintain speed at altitude beyond 7,000 msl. And if that is clear as mud Tarver can give you a better explaination.

I'm somewhat familiar with how a aeromatic prop works-- the hydrolic hose comment sounded like adding some aspect of controllability to the centrifugally-operated mechanism.

Hotrod150,

You are correct, univair produced a version that allowed the prop to be controlled beyond the designed centrifugal automatic controls. the only downside of this prop was the fact that it has a altitude limitation. If, for example, the altitude of your home airport is 5,000 msl and you set the weights to get the proper static rpm at that altitude, then you climbed to 13,000+ msl the automatic adjustment doesn't compensate as well and efficiency declines beyond 13Kmsl. With this control you can adjust it from the cockpit for additional altitudes. I'm not sure but somewhere i heard the prop starts to lose automatic adjustment beyond a 7,000 ft change in altitude.

Maybe someone who owns and has flown behind one of these can chime in. My divorce cost me alot more than I expected otherwise this would be on my plane today. Actually, I have a 0-320 but tarver agreed to trade hubs with me so I could use the prop. A buddy of mine just put one on his fairchild 24 and its beautiful. I should ask him about the altitude issue.

Sounds like a very interesting prop. Any idea how much the blades cost? Even a ball park figure. Been looking for an adjustable prop for my O-320.

Thanks higgy. Are different lengths available or are you stuck with one?
