FS: Madras Super Tips [SOLD]

I'm selling a set of Madras Super Tips wingtips, as removed from my 170B. Pretty sure they'll fit an early 172 as well. White paint, red/green nav lights, minor cosmetic blemishes that should clean right up. Otherwise in good solid condition. Asking $250 plus shipping.

Tips were removed due to a Sportsman cuff installation.

Thanks,

p.s. Wing covers have been sold. Thanks!

Re: FS: Madras Super Tips Cessna wingtips, covers

Hey DP. Do you know if they'd fit on a 180 with a horton?

Re: FS: Madras Super Tips Cessna wingtips, covers

Hi DP,
How would those wing covers fit on a stock 170B wing without the droopy tips? Would they be too long and floppy or can that slack be taken up?

What color are the wing covers?

Thanks,
KG

Not positive, but I don't think so. They're basically the profile of a stock wing tip, without any allowance for an aftermarket cuff.

Covers are black mesh with red spoilers. Standard Kennon colors/ materials.

I think you could run them through a sewing machine pretty easily and trim off the extra material to have a good fit on a stock 170B. In Anchorage I bet Tent and Tarp, or Fine Line would make fast work of it.

Re: FS: Madras Super Tips Cessna wingtips, Kennon covers

FWIW, for anyone considering the Madras tips, there are a couple of minor downsides to them. They tend to block the view straight out the sides, and they do add a bit of extra drag at cruise, maybe costing 3-4 knots. But they also add significant low speed aileron control. Besides, they look cool! Mine were on my LRB when I bought her, and I've never considered swapping them for more standard or less droopy tips.

DP

Could the Kennon covers be adapted to a Sportsman cuff (I have the cuff and Madras tips) with a little sewing? Seems like that might be easier than removing the big tip pocket. In any case, I could use some replacement covers if they can be made to fit and the price is right.

Bill,
I think the covers could be adapted by cutting them a few inches behind the leading edge and sewing in a long, skinny strip of extra fabric. If I was going to go that route, I'd bring the whole job to Alaska Tent and Tarp.
At the moment I have a standing offer on the covers. If it falls through I'l let you know.
Cheers,
