Fuel transfer from one aircraft to another

I am currently working on a project at work that required us to put 560 gallons of fuel in a prototype aircraft for leak tests. The test is over and aircraft defueled into new clean 55 gallon drums. My question is, can I take that fuel and put it into another aircraft? I have always herd you can’t take fuel out of one aircraft and put it in another, but never seen a regulation that stated this. I tend to think its an airline rule that has trickled into PART 91 hearsay.

P.S. I have also found that mechanics that drive diesel cars insist that the fuel must be "disposed of" for some reason.

Never heard it can't be used in another aircraft after defueling. I've transfered Jet A out of one to another for tank repairs. Also pumped quite a bit into my truck when everything else was full. All bonded & grounded BTW. I'd recomended a transfer pump with a filter when you take the fuel back out of the drums, and don't let it sit too long & start growing scum.

Filter it, but by all means use it in another aircraft.

Do it all the time at work. Often defueling 100,000 pounds back into our fuel pits just for our knew fuel savings program. Takes a lot of time but that's how the USAF operates. I would for sure use it

Re: Fuel transfer from one aircraft to another

It should be okay as long as it is filtered. Are you selling it or using it yourself in something else? Is it avgas or jet?
I have defueled/refueled many a customers airplane working on bladders and tanks. Not a big deal, just be careful about storage and static electricity. 560 gals is a lot of drums.
I worked as a fueler/ramp rat during A&P school. We serviced a large third party airline maintenance company. We would defuel these airliners, doing QA tests on fuel before defueled and put it in the tank farm. We gave them better fuel when we filled them up than what we defueled because of the tank farm filtering system.
As far as Avgas went, if it came out of a truck or airplane it wouldn't go back into one because of co. liability.
