G5 in a Stinson 108
Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?
Installing a G5 in the 108. Does anyone have recommendations for a good spot to mount the magnetometer?

Not sure about the Garmin, but when we ran electric compasses up north, the magnetometer was mounted way out in the wing.

Out on the right wing is where they have been installed on just about all the local birds with the G5... Only odd ball is one that got installed in the tail and he has been having issues with that one, so it will probably get moved to the wing also... These have been installs done at avionics shops.. I have yet to install one..

Mine's in the empenage behind the baggage compartment (C206), on a bracket mounted to the bulkheads. No problems so far (1.5 years in service).

I've installed on the left wing in a super cub. Mounted forward on the rear spar. Had rhe wing apart so was easy to make sure att the hardware that was close was aluminium or stainless.

Garmin's manual has been more and more picky about location as it has gotten revised. Some previously approved locations are now not allowed by the current manual. In a steel tube fuselage airplane, I'd DEFINITELY put it out in a wing. I did that in my Mooney. Same with my employee's Bellanca Viking.

I guess you’re forced to install a magnetometer in a certified plane? I haven’t bothered in my two homebuilts -don’t care what the magnetic heading is when I have ground track. Right up there with a magnetic compass in terms of usefulness.
