GAMI injectors

Can anyone tell me about gami injectors for IO 360. Have heard good things about them. How much and are they worth changing to.

Never used them on a 360, but I have on a number of IO 520 and 550 engines. They are great, and well worth doing on those engines, and I'm sure they'd be well worth doing on a 360 as well. It's just physics.

I don't know the current price, but GAMI can tell you.

It is worthy of note that Continental is now delivering new engines with cylinder matched injectors, sorta like the GAMI's. So, somebody else musta thought they were a good idea.

I had a set in our 210 that worked well. When we overhauled the Baron we matched one side and put GAMIs on the other. Both ran well I would give the edge to gami but it wasn't enough to spend another $700.00 for the other side. The injectors in the 210 were so poorly matched it made a big difference installing GAMI. My opinion would be if you have a set that flows well you wont see a big difference upgrading.

We had them on our C-210J with an IO-520 and they worked great, well worth the price. We could run 50 degrees Lean Of Peak and drop the fuel burn to 13 gph while maintaining 155 kts true. In this configuration the temp difference between the hottest and coolest cylinder would remain between 50 - 70 degrees.

We looked at putting them on our MX-7-180 and were advised by the fellow who installed them on our 210 that it would be a waste of money. On the 0-360 you are dealing with a carburetor and there is not really any way to balance the fuel flow with nearly the same accuracy as on a fuel injected. The other thought was that we are only burning 8 gph in cruise at 125 kts so would the the real savings come from? If we knock off 5 - 10 knots to save 2 gph running LOP it is nearly a wash.

I have been told by many that the Lycoming engines run pretty balanced from the factory and the GAMIjectors do not help much. I know of at least 2 people off the top of my head that have them on Lycoming motors and they say that it will run rough at 50 degrees LOP. This is not the case with the bigger Continental motors.

Just some observations and my .02

lowflybye,

Uh, precisely where on a carbureted engine would you have proposed to install fuel injector nozzles????

Even FUEL INJECTED Lycomings don't need GAMI's either by the way, since they use a different fuel distribution system than Continental does, and their fuel flows are already well matched.

I don't propose to to install them anywhere. We just got a wild hair and wondered if it was even possible to do and if so what would be the benefit if any of retrofitting it to an O-360. Obviously there is no benefit and it cannot be done. Better to retrofit the IO-360 on the Maule at overhaul.

Agreed...as stated previously: I have been told by many people that the Lycoming engines run pretty balanced from the factory and the GAMIjectors do not help much.

I have an IO-360 in my Cessna T41B and have had GAMI's installed for about 5-6 years in it. In one word they're great. I run LOP and figure 9 gph at 120+ knots cruise. For just loafing along I can lean it out and go 90 knots on 6 gph. That is with 2200 rpm and 17-18 inches of manifold pressure. I figure the GAMI's save me 2 gph.
